It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ka’b bin ‘Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man said to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! We have learned how to send salutations (salam) upon you, now the question is, what is the method of sending blessings (durood)? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Say like this:“O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim; indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed Ibrahim; indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.”
