Book of Funerals
باب ما جاء فى أن الميت يعذب ببكاء أهله عليه
Chapter on what is reported that the deceased is punished by his family's weeping over him
Hadith Number: 3066
عن ابي الربيع قال: كنت مع ابن عمر رضي الله عنه في جنازة فسمع صوت إنسان يصيح فبعث إليه فاسكته، فقلت: يا ابا عبد الرحمن! لم اسكته؟ قال: إنه يتاذى به الميت حتى يدخل قبره
Abu Rabi’ says: I was with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) at a funeral. When he heard the voice of a weeper, he sent a man to silence him. I said: O Abu Abdur Rahman! Why did you make him quiet? He said: As long as the deceased has not been placed in the grave, he is punished because of this weeping.
