Section on What Has Been Reported Regarding the Superiority of Shaving Over Trimming
Hadith Number: 4529
عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال: حلق رجال يوم الحديبية وقصر آخرون فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: ((يرحم الله المحلقين)) قالوا: يا رسول الله! والمقصرين؟ قال: ((يرحم الله المحلقين)) قالوا: يا رسول الله! والمقصرين؟ قال: ((يرحم الله المحلقين)) قالوا: يا رسول الله! والمقصرين؟ قال: ((والمقصرين)) قالوا: فما بال المحلقين يا رسول الله ظاهرت لهم الرحمة؟ قال: ((لم يشكوا)) قال: فانصرف رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, who says: On the day of Hudaybiyyah, some people shaved their heads and some shortened their hair. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: May Allah have mercy on those who shave their heads. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! And those who shorten their hair? He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: May Allah have mercy on those who shave their heads. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! And those who shorten their hair? He, peace and blessings be upon him, again said: May Allah have mercy on those who shave their heads. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! And those who shorten their hair? This time, he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: And may Allah have mercy on those who shorten their hair as well. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! What is the reason that you expressed greater mercy for those who shaved their heads? He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: They did not have any doubt. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, went away.
