Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding the Dislike of Brass and Iron Rings and the Recommendation of Silver Rings
Hadith Number: 7976
ومن طريق ثان عن ابن ابي مليكة رضي الله عنه عن عبد الله بن عمرو بن العاص رضي الله عنهما انه لبس خاتما من ذهب فنظر إليه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم كانه كرهه فطرحه ثم لبس خاتما من حديد فقال هذا اخبث واخبث فطرحه ثم لبس خاتما من ورق فسكت عنه
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that I wore a gold ring. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw it, it was as if he disliked it. I took it off and threw it away. Then I had an iron ring made. Regarding this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is even more impure than that; it is very impure." So I threw that away too and had a silver ring made. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent.
