It is narrated from Shu’bah that Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) went to visit Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) due to his illness. He had a silk sheet over him. I (Miswar) said,“O Abu Abbas! Why this cloth?”He said,“What is the matter?”I said,“This is silk.”He said,“By Allah! I did not know, but I think that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade silk due to pride and arrogance, and, praise be to Allah, we are not like that.”I said,“Then what about these pictures in the fireplace?”He said,“Do you not see that we are about to burn them in the fire?”When Miswar left, he said,“Remove this cloth from me and cut off the heads of these pictures.”The people said,“O Ibn Abbas! If you take it to the market, it will sell quickly and at a good price with the heads intact.”He said,“No,”and then ordered the heads of the pictures to be cut off.
