Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when the sun had declined. He said: O Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), stand up and perform the Zuhr prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed the Zuhr prayer. Then Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to him when the shadow of everything had become equal to its length. He requested: Stand up and perform the Asr prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed the Asr prayer. Then he came to him after the sun had set and said: Stand up and perform the Maghrib prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed the Maghrib prayer. Then some time passed, until when the twilight had disappeared, he came to him and requested: Stand up and perform the Isha prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed this prayer. Then he came to him when the true dawn had appeared and said: Stand up and perform the Fajr prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed the Fajr prayer.
The next day, Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to him when the shadow of everything had become equal to its length. He requested: Stand up and perform the Zuhr prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed the Zuhr prayer. Then he came to him when the shadow of everything had become twice its length and said: Stand up and perform the Asr prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed the Asr prayer. Then he came to him after the sun had set. This was the same time as before; there was no difference in it. He said: Stand up and perform the Maghrib prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed the Maghrib prayer. Then he came to him for the Isha prayer when one third of the night had passed. He requested: Stand up and perform the Isha prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed the Isha prayer. Then he came to him for the Fajr prayer when the light had spread well. He requested: Stand up and perform the Fajr prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed the Fajr prayer. Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) said: The time for all prayers is between these two times.
