Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing on a camel, and a man was holding the camel’s rein (the narrator is unsure about a word here). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“What day is this?”We remained silent, thinking perhaps he would give it another name. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“Is it not the Day of Sacrifice?”We replied,“Yes.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“What month is this?”We remained silent, thinking perhaps he would give it another name. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“Is it not Dhul-Hijjah?”We replied,“Yes.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“What city is this?”We remained silent until we thought perhaps he would give it another name. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“Is it not the Sacred City?”We replied,“Yes.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Your lives, your wealth, and your honor are as sacred to one another as this day, in this month, in this city are sacred. Beware! Let every present person convey this to the absent, for sometimes the one who is present conveys it to someone who will preserve it better than he does.”
