Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“A man committed a sin, then he said: O my Lord! I have committed a sin. (The narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words:) I have done a deed, so forgive me. Allah Almighty said: My servant has committed a sin, he knows that he has a Lord who can forgive sins and can also punish for them, so I have forgiven My servant. Then that person committed another sin. (The narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words:) He committed another sin, so he said: O my Lord! I have committed a sin, so forgive me. Allah Almighty said: This My servant knows that he has a Lord who can forgive sins and can also punish for them, so I have forgiven My servant. Then that person again committed that sin. (The narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words:) He committed some other sin, then he said: O my Lord! I have committed a sin, so forgive me. Allah Almighty said: My servant knows that he has a Lord who can forgive sins and can also punish for them. O angels! I make you witnesses that I have forgiven My servant, now let him do whatever he wishes.”
