Hadith Number: 2970

حدثنا الحميدي، حدثنا سفيان، قال: سمعت مالك بن انس، سال زيد بن اسلم، فقال: زيد سمعت ابي يقول: قال : عمر بن الخطابرضي الله عنه، حملت على فرس في سبيل الله، فرايته يباع، فسالت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم اشتريه، فقال:" لا تشتره، ولا تعد في صدقتك".

Eng:

Narrated `Umar bin Al-Khattab: I gave a horse to be used in Allah's Cause, but later on I saw it being sold. I asked the Prophet whether I could buy it. He said, "Don't buy it and don't take back your gift of charity."

Hadith Number: 1489

حدثنا يحيى بن بكير، حدثنا الليث، عن عقيل، عن ابن شهاب، عن سالم، ان عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما كان يحدث ," انعمر بن الخطاب تصدق بفرس في سبيل الله، فوجده يباع، فاراد ان يشتريه"، ثم اتى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فاستامره، فقال: لا تعد في صدقتك، فبذلك كان ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما لا يترك ان يبتاع شيئا تصدق به إلا جعله صدقة".

Eng:

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: `Umar bin Al-Khattab gave a horse in charity in Allah's Cause and later he saw it being sold in the market and intended to purchase it. Then he went to the Prophet and asked his permission. The Prophet said, "Do not take back what you have given in charity." For this reason, Ibn `Umar never purchased the things which he had given in charity, and in case he had purchased something (unknowingly) he would give it in charity again.

Hadith Number: 1490

حدثنا عبد الله بن يوسف، اخبرنا مالك بن انس، عن زيد بن اسلم، عن ابيه، قال: سمعت عمر رضي الله عنه، يقول:" حملت على فرس في سبيل الله فاضاعه الذي كان عنده فاردت ان اشتريه وظننت انه يبيعه برخص، فسالت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: لا تشتري ولا تعد في صدقتك، وإن اعطاكه بدرهم فإن العائد في صدقته كالعائد في قيئه".

Eng:

Narrated `Umar: Once I gave a horse in Allah's Cause (in charity) but that person did not take care of it. I intended to buy it, as I thought he would sell it at a low price. So, I asked the Prophet (p.b.u.h) about it. He said, "Neither buy, nor take back your alms which you have given, even if the seller were willing to sell it for one Dirham, for he who takes back his alms is like the one who swallows his own vomit."

حدثنا مسلم بن إبراهيم، حدثنا وهيب، حدثنا ابن طاوس، عن ابيه، عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما، قال: قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم:" العائد في هبته كالكلب يقيء، ثم يعود في قيئه".

Eng:

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet said, "One who takes back his gift (which he has already given) is like a dog that swallows its vomit."

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet said, "He who takes back his present is like him who swallows his vomit."

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet said, "The bad example is not for us. He who takes back his present is like a dog that swallows back its vomit."

حدثنا يحيى بن قزعة، حدثنا مالك، عن زيد بن اسلم، عن ابيه، سمعت عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه، يقول: حملت على فرس في سبيل الله فاضاعه الذي كان عنده، فاردت ان اشتريه منه، وظننت انه بائعه برخص، فسالت عن ذلك النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: لا تشتره، وإن اعطاكه بدرهم واحد، فإن العائد في صدقته كالكلب يعود في قيئه".

Eng:

Narrated `Umar bin Al-Khattab: I gave a horse in Allah's Cause. The person to whom it was given, did not look after it. I intended to buy it from him, thinking that he would sell it cheap. When I asked the Prophet he said, "Don't buy it, even if he gives it to you for one Dirham, as the person who takes back what he has given in charity, is like a dog that swallows back its vomit."

حدثنا الحميدي، اخبرنا سفيان، قال: سمعت مالكا يسال زيد بن اسلم، قال: سمعت ابي، يقول، قال عمر رضي الله عنه: حملت على فرس في سبيل الله، فرايته يباع، فسالت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال:" لا تشتره، ولا تعد في صدقتك".

Narrated `Umar bin Al-Khattab: Once I gave a horse (for riding) in Allah's Cause. Later I saw it being sold. I asked Allah's Apostle (whether I could buy it). He said, "Don't buy it, for you should not get back what you have given in charity."

حدثنا مسدد، حدثنا يحيى، حدثنا عبيد الله، قال: حدثني نافع، عن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما: ان عمر حمل على فرس له في سبيل الله اعطاها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ليحمل عليها رجلا، فاخبر عمر انه قد وقفها يبيعها، فسال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:" ان يبتاعها، فقال: لا تبتعها، ولا ترجعن في صدقتك".

Eng:

Narrated Ibn `Umar: Once `Umar gave a horse in charity to be used in holy fighting. It had been given to him by Allah's Apostle . `Umar gave it to another man to ride. Then `Umar was informed that the man put the horse for sale, so he asked Allah's Apostle whether he could buy it. Allah's Apostle replied, "You should not buy it, for you should not take back what you have given in charity."

Narrated Aslam: I heard `Umar bin Al-Khattab saying, "I gave a horse to be ridden in Allah's Cause and the person who got it intended to sell it or neglected it. So, I wanted to buy it as I thought he would sell it cheap. I consulted the Prophet who said, "Do not buy it even if for one Dirham, because he who takes back his gift is like a dog swallowing its vomit."

حدثنا ابو نعيم، حدثنا سفيان، عن ايوب السختياني، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما، قال: قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم:" العائد في هبته كالكلب يعود في قيئه، ليس لنا مثل السوء".

Eng:

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet said, "The one who takes back his gift is like a dog swallowing its own vomit, and we (believers) should not act according to this bad example."
