-" ابشري يا ام العلاء، فإن مرض المسلم يذهب الله به خطاياه كما تذهب النار خبث الذهب والفضة".
Sayyidah Umm al-‘Ala’ (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I was ill, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to visit me during my illness and said:“Umm al-‘Ala’! Rejoice, for Allah, because of a Muslim’s illness, removes his sins just as fire removes the impurities of gold and silver.”

What has happened to you? You are trembling." She replied: "It is fever, may Allah not bless it." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not curse fever, for it removes the sins of the children of Adam just as a furnace removes the impurities of iron."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Umm Abdullah bint Abu Dhibab was ill, so I went to her to visit her. She said: O Abu Hurairah! She saw a boil on my hand and said that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When Allah Almighty tests a servant and he dislikes it because of his condition and state, Allah makes that hardship an expiation for his sins and a means of purification for him, as long as he does not present it at the door of anyone other than Allah (to seek a cure), nor does he call upon anyone other than Allah to remove it."
