باب في صَلاَةِ التَّطَوُّعِ قَاعِداً:
Chapter: Voluntary prayer while sitting
Hadith Number: 1423
اخبرنا عبد الله بن صالح، حدثني الليث، حدثني يونس، عن ابن شهاب، حدثني السائب بن يزيد، عن المطلب بن ابي وداعة، ان حفصة زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قالت: "لم ار رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي في سبحته وهو جالس، حتى كان قبل ان يتوفى بعام واحد او عامين، فرايته يصلي في سبحته وهو جالس، فيرتل السورة حتى تكون اطول من اطول منها".
Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Hafsah bint Umar (may Allah be pleased with her), the blessed wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said: I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performing voluntary prayers while sitting. But only one or two years before the passing of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I saw him performing prayer while sitting, in which he would recite the surah with measured recitation, and it would become longer and longer.

اخبرنا عثمان بن عمر، انبانا مالك، عن الزهري، عن السائب بن يزيد، عن المطلب بن ابي وداعة، عن حفصة، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بهذا الحديث.
This hadith is also narrated from Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) through the chain of ‘Uthman bin ‘Umar.
