Musnad of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith Number: 4176
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is extremely bad for any one of you to say, 'I forgot such-and-such verse,' rather he should say, 'Such-and-such verse was made to be forgotten by me.' Safeguard this Qur'an, for it slips away from people's hearts faster than a camel escapes from its rope."

Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when we used to sit in Tashahhud with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we would say, "Peace be upon so-and-so and so-and-so." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard us saying this, he said: "Say like this: «التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلّٰهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللّٰهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ» 'All verbal, physical, and financial acts of worship are for Allah alone. O Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)! May Allah's peace, mercy, and blessings descend upon you. May peace descend upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger.'" When you say this phrase: "May peace descend upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah," it will include every righteous servant in the heavens and the earth."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked ten things: wearing a gold ring, dragging the lower garment on the ground, using yellow perfume, plucking white hair, removing semen from its place, performing incantations with things other than the Mu'awwidhat, approaching one's wife during the days of breastfeeding and thereby harming the child's health, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not declare these things unlawful. He also disliked hanging amulets, beautifying oneself for anyone other than one's husband, and playing with dice.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will wait for you at the Pond of Kawthar. It will be said: 'You do not know what new things they invented after you.'"

Once, a man from Banu Tai narrated among the people, on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the abundance of family and wealth. Then Abu Hamzah—who was present and sitting there at the time—affirmed this and also narrated it with his own chain of transmission, and at the end, he quoted this statement of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): "What will happen to the person whose family lives in «بريدان» , some of his family lives in Madinah and some elsewhere?"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If I were to take anyone as a close friend (khalil), I would have taken Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) as my close friend, but he is my brother and my companion, and your Prophet is the close friend (khalil) of Allah, the Exalted."

It is narrated, most likely as a marfu’ hadith, from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that near the Day of Judgment, the days of «هرج» will come in which knowledge will decline and ignorance will prevail. Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) says that in the language of the people of Habasha, «هرج» means killing.
