حَدِيثُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ الْمُزَنِيِّ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Hadith of Abdullah ibn Mughaffal al-Muzani from the Prophet (peace be upon him)

(حديث مرفوع) حدثنا إسماعيل ، قال: حدثنا سعيد بن إياس الجريري ، عن قيس بن عباية ، عن ابن عبد الله بن مغفل يزيد بن عبد الله ، قال: سمعني ابي ، وانا اقول: بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم سورة الفاتحة آية 1، فقال: اي بني، إياك قال:" ولم ار احدا من اصحاب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان ابغض إليه حدثا في الإسلام منه فإني قد صليت مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ومع ابي بكر، وعمر، ومع عثمان، فلم اسمع احدا منهم يقولها، فلا تقلها، إذا انت قرات، فقل: الحمد لله رب العالمين".
Yazid bin Abdullah says that once my father heard me reciting Bismillah aloud in prayer, so he said, "Son, avoid this." Yazid says, "I have not seen any companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him) hate innovation as much as he did, because I have prayed with the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the three caliphs, and I did not hear any of them recite Bismillah aloud, so you should not do so either. Rather, begin the recitation with 'Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alamin.'"

Hadith Number: 16788
(حديث مرفوع) حدثنا إسماعيل ، قال: اخبرنا يونس ، عن الحسن ، عن عبد الله بن مغفل ، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:" لولا ان الكلاب امة من الامم لامرت بقتلها، فاقتلوا منها الاسود البهيم، وايما قوم اتخذوا كلبا ليس بكلب حرث، او صيد، او ماشية نقصوا من اجورهم كل يوم قيراطا". (حديث موقوف) (حديث مرفوع) قال:" وكنا نؤمر ان نصلي في مرابض الغنم، ولا نصلي في اعطان الإبل، فإنها خلقت من الشياطين".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If dogs were not a community (ummah) among the communities, I would have ordered their extermination. Therefore, kill every jet-black dog. And whoever keeps a dog that is not for guarding fields, hunting, or livestock, their reward will be reduced by one qirat every day. And we were commanded that we may pray in sheep enclosures, but not in camel enclosures, because their creation is from Satan (there is a satanic nature in them).

Hadith Number: 16789
(حديث مرفوع) حدثنا ابن إدريس ، قال: سمعت شعبة يذكر، عن ابي إياس معاوية بن قرة المزني ، عن عبد الله بن مغفل قال: سمعته" يقرا يعني النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يوم الفتح، فلولا ان يجتمع الناس علي لحكيت لكم قراءة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: قرا سورة الفتح"، قال: لولا ان يجتمع الناس علي لحكيت لكم ما قال عبد الله يعني ابن مغفل كيف قرا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم؟، وقال بهز، وغندر: قال فرجع فيها.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reciting the Noble Qur’an on the occasion of the conquest of Makkah. If people did not gather around me, I would recite to you in the manner of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited Surah Al-Fath. Muawiyah bin Qurrah says that if I too did not fear people gathering, I would demonstrate before you the style narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal, showing how the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited.

Hadith Number: 16790
(حديث مرفوع) حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد ، قال: حدثنا كهمس ، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن بريدة ، عن ابن مغفل ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال:" بين كل اذانين صلاة لمن شاء".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal Muzani, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: There is prayer between every two calls to prayer; whoever wishes may offer it.

Hadith Number: 16791
(حديث مرفوع) حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد ، وبهز ، قالا: حدثنا سليمان بن المغيرة ، قال: حدثنا حميد بن هلال ، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن مغفل ، قال: دلي جراب من شحم يوم خيبر، قال فالتزمته، قلت: لا اعطي احدا منه شيئا، قال فالتفت، فإذا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم" يتبسم"، قال بهز: إلي.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Khaybar, I found a leather container in which there was fat. I grabbed it and tucked it under my arm and said, "I will not give anyone anything from this." Suddenly, I noticed that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was looking at me and smiling.

Hadith Number: 16792
(حديث مرفوع) حدثنا يحيى ، عن شعبة ، قال: حدثنا ابو التياح ، عن مطرف ، عن ابن مغفل ، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم امر بقتل الكلاب، ثم قال:" ما لهم ولها"، فرخص في كلب الصيد، وفي كلب الغنم، قال:" فإذا ولغ الكلب في الإناء فاغسلوه سبع مرار والثامنة عفروه بالتراب".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal Muzani, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, initially ordered the killing of dogs, but later said that there is no longer a need for this, and permitted keeping dogs for hunting and for guarding herds of goats. And he said that when a dog puts its mouth in a vessel, wash it seven times and scrub it with earth the eighth time.

Hadith Number: 16793
(حديث مرفوع) حدثنا يحيى ، عن هشام ، قال: سمعت الحسن ، عن عبد الله بن مغفل ، ان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم" نهى عن الترجل إلا غبا".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal Muzani, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade combing the hair, except occasionally.

Hadith Number: 16794
(حديث مرفوع) حدثنا وكيع ، قال: حدثني كهمس ، عن عبد الله بن بريدة ، عن ابن مغفل ، قال: نهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن الخذف، وقال:" إنها لا ينكا بها عدو، ولا يصاد بها صيد".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal Muzani, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade throwing pebbles and said: "With it, neither is the enemy subdued nor is any game caught."

Hadith Number: 16795
(حديث مرفوع) حدثنا يونس بن محمد ، قال: حدثنا عبد الواحد ، قال: حدثنا عاصم الاحول ، عن الفضيل بن زيد الرقاشي ، قال: كنا عند عبد الله بن مغفل ، قال: فتذاكرنا الشراب، فقال: الخمر حرام، قلت له: الخمر حرام في كتاب الله عز وجل، قال: فايش تريد، تريد ما سمعت من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم؟ سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم" ينهى عن الدباء والحنتم والمزفت"، قال: قلت: ما الحنتم؟، قال: كل خضراء وبيضاء، قال: قلت: ما المزفت؟، قال: كل مقير من زق او غيره.
Fudayl bin Zayd Raqashi says that once we were sitting with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) when the topic of alcohol came up, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal said that alcohol is forbidden. I asked: Has it been declared forbidden in the Book of Allah? He replied: What is your intention? Do you want me to tell you what I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this? I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding the use of gourds, hantam, and muzaffat. I asked the meaning of hantam, and he said: Every green and white jug. I asked the meaning of muzaffat, and he said: A vessel made of pitch, etc.

Hadith Number: 16796
(حديث مرفوع) حدثنا يزيد بن هارون ، قال: اخبرنا حماد بن سلمة ، عن يزيد الرقاشي ، عن ابي نعامة ، ان عبد الله بن مغفل سمع ابنا له، يقول: اللهم إني اسالك الفردوس وكذا، واسالك كذا، فقال: اي بني سل الله الجنة، وتعوذ بالله من النار، فإني سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول:" يكون في هذه الامة قوم يعتدون في الدعاء والطهور".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal once heard his son making this supplication: "O Allah! I ask You for Jannat al-Firdaws and such-and-such things." So he said: "Son! Ask Allah only for Paradise and seek refuge from Hell, for I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say that there will be some people in this Ummah who will exceed the limits in supplication and ablution."
