The same narration is also transmitted from Jabir bin Samurah with another chain, however, in it are these words: Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Abu Ishaq! This is what I thought about you. The narrator named Sufyan also transmitted these words in it: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) instructed him to present himself before the people, so whenever Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by any tribe, the people praised him, until when he passed by the gathering ofBanu Abs,a wretched man came before him. The kunya of this man was Abu Sa’dah. He said: I know that this man does not act justly regarding his subjects, does not go out for any military expedition, and does not distribute (the spoils of war) properly. So Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Allah! If he is lying, then lengthen his life, increase his children, afflict him with poverty, and subject him to trials. The narrator named Abdul Malik bin Umair says: I saw him as an old man of great age who used to harass young girls on the road. When he was spoken to about this, he used to say: An old man who is poor and afflicted by trials, he has been struck by the supplication of a righteous man, Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him). There is no trial that he has not been afflicted with.
