Rabee’ah bin Abi Abdur Rahman says: I asked Sa’eed bin Al-Musayyib,What is the compensation for a woman’s finger? He said,Ten camels.I said,For two fingers? He said,Twenty camels.I said,For three fingers? He said,Thirty camels.I said,For four fingers? He said,Twenty camels.I said,How strange! When the wound increases and the loss is greater, the compensation becomes less.Sa’eed said,Are you an Iraqi?I said,No, rather I am firm upon what I know, and I ask about what I do not know.Sa’eed said,This is how it is in the Sunnah, O son of my brother.

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: According to us, this ruling is by consensus, that when all the fingers of a hand are cut off, full compensation (diyah) is due, calculated as ten camels for each finger, so fifty camels in total. And if the palm is also cut off, then it is to be given according to the judge’s opinion. In terms of dinars, for each finger it is one hundred dinars, and for each phalange it is thirty-three (33) dinars, and for each phalange it is three and one-third camels.

Malik said: The practice among us regarding the fingers of the hand is that if they are cut off, their full compensation is due. That is because if all five fingers are cut off, their compensation is the compensation for the whole hand: fifty camels. For each finger, ten camels. Malik said: And the calculation for the fingers is thirty-three dinars and one third of a dinar for each phalange, and from the camels, it is three full shares and one third of a share.
