Hadith Number: 1693
وحدثني، عن وحدثني، عن مالك، عن يحيى بن سعيد ، ان عمر بن الخطاب كان ياكل خبزا بسمن، فدعا رجلا من اهل البادية فجعل ياكل ويتبع باللقمة وضر الصحفة، فقال عمر :" كانك مقفر؟" فقال: والله ما اكلت سمنا ولا لكت اكلا به منذ كذا وكذا، فقال عمر: " لا آكل السمن حتى يحيا الناس من اول ما يحيون"
Yahya ibn Sa'id narrates that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was eating bread with ghee. A Bedouin came, and he (may Allah be pleased with him) called him, and he also started eating. The Bedouin began to eat even the greasy residue of the ghee that was sticking to the bowl along with the bread. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "How greedy you are (meaning, you have not had curry)." He replied: "By Allah! I have not eaten ghee for such a long time, nor have I seen anyone eating with it (because at that time there had been a famine for a long period, and people were in distress)." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I will also not eat ghee until the people's condition returns to what it was before (meaning, until the famine is over and things become affordable again)."

Hadith Number: 1694
وحدثني، عن وحدثني، عن مالك، عن إسحاق بن عبد الله بن ابي طلحة ، عن انس بن مالك ، انه قال: رايت عمر بن الخطاب وهو يومئذ امير المؤمنين، " يطرح له صاع من تمر فياكله حتى ياكل حشفها"
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that I saw that a sa’ (measure) of dates was placed before Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he would eat from it until he even ate the spoiled and dry dates, and at that time he (may Allah be pleased with him) was the Commander of the Faithful.

Hadith Number: 1695
وحدثني، عن وحدثني، عن مالك، عن عبد الله بن دينار ، عن عبد الله بن عمر ، انه قال: سئل عمر بن الخطاب عن الجراد، فقال: " وددت ان عندي قفعة ناكل منه"
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about the locust (i.e., whether it is lawful or unlawful). So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I wish I had a basket full of locusts so that I could eat them.

وحدثني، عن وحدثني، عن مالك، عن محمد بن عمرو بن حلحلة ، عن حميد بن مالك بن خثيم ، انه قال: كنت جالسا مع ابي هريرة بارضه بالعقيق، فاتاه قوم من اهل المدينة على دواب فنزلوا عنده، قال حميد: فقال ابو هريرة :" اذهب إلى امي، فقل: إن ابنك يقرئك السلام، ويقول: اطعمينا شيئا"، قال: فوضعت ثلاثة اقراص في صحفة وشيئا من زيت وملح، ثم وضعتها على راسي وحملتها إليهم، فلما وضعتها بين ايديهم كبر ابو هريرة، وقال:" الحمد لله الذي اشبعنا من الخبز بعد ان لم يكن طعامنا إلا الاسودين الماء والتمر"، فلم يصب القوم من الطعام شيئا، فلما انصرفوا، قال: يا ابن اخي " احسن إلى غنمك وامسح الرعام عنها، واطب مراحها وصل في ناحيتها، فإنها من دواب الجنة، والذي نفسي بيده ليوشك ان ياتي على الناس زمان تكون الثلة من الغنم احب إلى صاحبها من دار مروان"
It is narrated from Humaid bin Malik that I was sitting with Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) on his land which was in Aqeeq. Some people from Madinah arrived there riding on animals and dismounted there. Humaid said that Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: Go to my mother and convey my greetings to her and say, give us some food to eat. Humaid said (I went to his mother): she gave three loaves of bread, some olive oil, and some salt, and loaded them on my head. I brought them to Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) and placed them before him. Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) saw them and said: Allahu Akbar, and said: Praise be to Allah who has satisfied us with bread. Before this, our condition was such that nothing was available except dates and water. That food was not enough for those people. When they left, Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: O son of my brother! Take good care of the goats, keep wiping their noses, and clean their place, and pray in that place in a corner, because they are among the animals of Paradise. By Allah, in Whose hand is my soul, a time is near when such a period will come upon people that at that time a small flock of goats will be more beloved to a man than the house of Marwan.

Hadith Number: 1697
وحدثني، عن مالك، عن ابي نعيم وهب بن كيسان ، قال: اتي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بطعام ومعه ربيبه عمر بن ابي سلمة، فقال له رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " سم الله وكل مما يليك"
It is narrated from Abu Nu'aym Wahb bin Kaysan that food was brought to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and with him was his stepson, 'Umar bin Abi Salamah (the son of Lady Umm Salamah, may Allah be pleased with her, from her previous husband). The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "Eat from what is in front of you and say 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah)."

وحدثني، عن وحدثني، عن مالك، عن يحيى بن سعيد ، انه قال: سمعت القاسم بن محمد ، يقول: جاء رجل إلى عبد الله بن عباس، فقال له: إن لي يتيما وله إبل افاشرب من لبن إبله؟ فقال له ابن عباس : " إن كنت تبغي ضالة إبله، وتهنا جرباها وتلط حوضها وتسقيها يوم وردها، فاشرب غير مضر بنسل ولا ناهك في الحلب"
Yahya ibn Sa'id said: I heard Qasim ibn Muhammad say that a man came to Abdullah ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, and said: I have an orphan boy with me, and he has camels. May I drink their milk? Abdullah ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: If you search for his lost camels, treat the mange of the camels, plaster and repair their watering trough, and give them water on their watering days (meaning, if you work and take care of the camels), then drink their milk, but not in such a way that nothing remains for the child (i.e., do not milk them so much that the child is left hungry), nor so that it harms the offspring, or harms the she-camel (for example, by milking her too forcefully).

Hadith Number: 1699
وحدثني، عن مالك، عن هشام بن عروة ، عن ابيه انه كان لا يؤتى ابدا بطعام ولا شراب حتى الدواء فيطعمه او يشربه، إلا قال: " الحمد لله الذي هدانا واطعمنا وسقانا ونعمنا الله اكبر، اللهم الفتنا نعمتك بكل شر فاصبحنا منها، وامسينا بكل خير فنسالك تمامها وشكرها، لا خير إلا خيرك، ولا إله غيرك إله الصالحين ورب العالمين، الحمد لله ولا إله إلا الله ما شاء الله ولا قوة إلا بالله، اللهم بارك لنا فيما رزقتنا وقنا عذاب النار" .
Whenever any food or drink, even medicine, was brought before Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair, he would eat or drink it and say: All praise is due to that Lord who guided us, fed us, gave us drink, and bestowed blessings upon us. He is Allah, the Greatest. O Lord! Your blessing has come to us at a time when we were completely engaged in wrongdoing. We have entered the morning and evening well because of this blessing. If You will, complete this blessing for us and grant us the ability to be grateful. There is no goodness except Your goodness. There is no true deity except You. O Lord of the righteous and Sustainer of all the worlds, all praise is due to Allah. There is no true deity except Him. Whatever Allah wills, happens. No one has any power except through Allah. O Allah, bless our sustenance and save us from the punishment of Hell.

Hadith Number: 1699B1
قال يحيى: سئل مالك هل تاكل المراة مع غير ذي محرم منها او مع غلامها؟ فقال مالك: ليس بذلك باس، إذا كان ذلك على وجه ما يعرف للمراة ان تاكل معه من الرجال، قال: وقد تاكل المراة مع زوجها، ومع غيره ممن يؤاكله، او مع اخيها على مثل ذلك، ويكره للمراة ان تخلو مع الرجل ليس بينه وبينها حرمة
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked: What is the ruling if a woman eats food with a non-mahram man or with her slave? He replied: There is nothing objectionable in it as long as it is in accordance with dignity (i.e., in a manner that is appropriate for that woman), and that is when there are other people present in that place. And he said: A woman also eats with her husband, sometimes with others whom the husband feeds, sometimes with her brother, and it is disliked for a woman to be alone with a non-mahram.
