Sayyiduna Wa’il bin Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would begin the prayer, he would raise both his hands, then sayAllahu Akbar, and wrap his cloak, then place both his hands inside his garment, then hold his left hand with his right hand. Then the rest of the hadith is mentioned. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that this is Alqamah bin Wa’il, there is no doubt about it. Perhaps Abdul Warith or a narrator below him was in doubt about his name (so he said Wa’il bin Alqamah). Whereas when Hammam bin Yahya narrated, he also mentioned in his chain of narration that the teacher of Abdul Jabbar bin Wa’il was Alqamah bin Wa’il. He also included a freed slave of his along with him. (So, in the first chain, mentioning Wa’il bin Alqamah as the teacher of Abdul Jabbar bin Wa’il is incorrect.)

The Imam narrates from his teacher, Muhammad bin Yahya, with his chain of transmission. In the narration of Muqar ‘Affan, these words are not present: "Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) put his hand inside his garment."
