(40) بَابُ الزَّجْرِ عَنْ ضَرْبِ الدَّوَابِّ عَلَى الْوَجْهِ، وَفِيهِ مَا دَلَّ عَلَى أَنَّ الضَّرْبَ عَلَى غَيْرِ الْوَجْهِ مُبَاحٌ
40 Subchapter: Prohibition of striking animals on the face; striking elsewhere is allowed
Hadith Number: 2551
حدثنا محمد بن معمر بن ربعي القيسي ، حدثنا محمد يعني ابن بكر البرساني ، اخبرنا ابن جريج ، اخبرني ابو الزبير ، انه سمع جابر بن عبد الله ، يقول:" نهى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم عن الوسم في الوجه، وعن الضرب في الوجه" . قال ابو بكر: في اخبار جابر في قصة البعير الذي ابتاعه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم , قال:" اعيا جملي، فنخسه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بقضيب او ضربه"، دلالة على ان ضرب الدواب على غير الوجه مباح، خرجت تلك الاخبار في كتاب البيوع
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade branding on the face (of an animal) and hitting on the face. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: In the story of Sayyiduna Jabir’s camel, the camel which the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bought from him, Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that his camel became exhausted, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pricked its side with a stick or struck it. In this is evidence that it is permissible to strike (when necessary) parts of animals other than their faces. I have mentioned these narrations in the Book of Transactions (Kitab al-Buyu’).
