It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking directly from the mouth of a water-skin, riding on animals that eat filth, and killing an animal by tying it up (and using it as a target). Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade "mujaththama." And "mujaththama" is that animal which is tied up and used as a target until it is killed. "I have written this hadith in the Book of Foods or the Book of Jihad. And also this narration that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade killing any animal by tying it up and leaving it hungry and thirsty."
