Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked: If a person gives one-third of the cloth and one dirham, or one-fourth, or whatever both agree upon, as payment to someone for weaving cloth, what is the ruling on this? He, may Allah have mercy on him, replied: I do not see any harm in it.

Hazrat Sha'bi, Hazrat Hakam, and Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on them) considered it disliked that a weaver should be given one-third of the woven cloth as his wage. The narrator (may Allah have mercy on him) states that Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) did not see any harm in this.

22906 - And al-Hakam from Ibrahim: (They disliked) (1) that a man gives cloth to the weaver for a third.

22907 - He said: And Ata did not see any harm in that.

Hazrat Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) says that there is no harm in giving one-third of the cloth as wages to the weaver.

Hazrat Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) did not consider it objectionable that a weaver be given one third or one fourth of the cloth as wages.

Hazrat Shahr bin Hawshab was asked about giving cloth to a weaver and fixing his wage as a third or a quarter of the cloth. He, may Allah have mercy on him, replied: This is a condition which has no basis.

Hazrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) disliked giving a third or a quarter of the cloth as wages to the weaver from the cloth itself.

Ayub (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Hakim were asked about giving a third or a quarter of the cloth as wages to the weaver. Both of them did not consider there to be any harm in it.
