Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I put up curtains with pictures in the house. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came home, he took down those curtains. I made cushions out of them, and I saw that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was reclining against one of those cushions.

Hazrat bint Saad says that my father brought some cushions from Persia which had pictures on them; we used to spread those cushions.

Hazrat Laith says that I saw Hazrat Salim bin Abdullah reclining on a red cushion which had pictures on it. I asked him about this, so he said that pictures are disliked for the person who decorates and hangs them.

Hazrat Hisham bin Urwah states that his father used to lean on cushions that had pictures of birds and humans on them.

Hazrat Hattan bin Abdullah narrates that a friend came to me and called out to me. I looked out and he said that a letter from the Commander of the Faithful was read before us, in which it was written that in those houses where there are curtains with pictures on them, it is obligatory for them to take down those curtains. So I did not consider it appropriate to spend the night in a state of sin and took down those curtains. Muhammad narrates that the predecessors did not consider pictures on things that are spread out to be disliked, but they did consider pictures on things that are hung up to be disliked.

26930 - He said: Muhammad, they did not regard as objectionable what was trampled upon and spread out of images, like that which was set up.

Hazrat Ikrimah used to say regarding those pictures which are made on mats or cushions that this is their humiliation.

Hazrat Ikrimah states that the predecessors considered images on hanging objects to be disliked, but did not see any harm in images on spread-out objects.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that there is no harm in having a picture on something that is spread out.

Hazrat Mujahid also considered the image of a fruit-bearing tree to be disliked.
