Explanation of Allah's Statement: 'And Let a Group of the Believers Witness Their Punishment' (Qur'an 24:2)

٣٠٦٣٣ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن علية عن ابن ابي نجيح عن مجاهد: ﴿وليشهد عذابهما طائفة من المؤمنين﴾ [النور: ٢]، قال: (ادناه) (١) رجل.

Hazrat Ibn Abi Najih narrates that regarding the interpretation of the verse "And a group of the believers should witness their punishment," it is reported from Hazrat Mujahid that he said: at least one person should be present, and Hazrat Ata said: there should be two persons.

٣٠٦٣٥ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا عبد الاعلى عن هشام عن الحسن: ﴿وليشهد عذابهما طائفة من المؤمنين﴾ قال: عشرة.
Hazrat Hisham states that regarding the interpretation of the verse { وَلْیَشْہَدْ عَذَابَہُمَا طَائِفَۃٌ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ }, it is narrated from Hasan Basri that he said: There should be ten individuals.

٣٠٦٣٦ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا معن بن عيسى عن ابن ابي ذئب عن الزهري قال: ثلاثة فصاعدا.
Ibn Abi Dhi'b states that Zuhri said: "Three or more."

٣٠٦٣٧ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا عباد عن اشعث عن ابيه قال: شهدت (ابا برزة) (١) ضرب امة له فجرت، وعليها ملحفة قد جللت (بها) (٢) وعنده طائفة من الناس ثم قال: ﴿وليشهد عذابهما طائفة من المؤمنين﴾ (٣).

(٣) مجهول؛ لجهالة والد الأشعث.
Hazrat Ash'ath's father, Hazrat Suwar, narrates that I was present with Hazrat Abu Barzah. He struck one of his slave girls with a whip who had committed adultery. At that time, she was wearing a sheet that covered her. And there was a group of people with you. Then you recited the verse: Translation: And a group of the believers should witness their punishment.

٣٠٦٣٨ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا زيد بن حباب عن موسى بن عبيدة عن محمد ابن كعب قال: سمعته يقول ﴿إن (يعف) (١) عن طائفة منكم﴾ [التوبة: ٦٦]، قال: كان رجل.

(١) كذا قرأ الجمهور، وقرأ عاصم (نعف) وهي كذلك في: [ط، هـ].
Hazrat Musa bin Ubaidah says that I heard Hazrat Muhammad bin Ka'b saying: Ayah: Translation: "If a group among you is forgiven." He said: That was one man.
