Raising the Voice During Supplication

٣١٦٤٢ - حدثنا وكيع عن اسامة بن زيد عن ابن ابي (لبيبة) (١) عن سعد قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"خير الذكر الخفي" (٢).

(١) في [أ، ب، ط]: (كنبة).
(٢) ضعيف منقطع؛ ابن أبي لبيبة ضعيف ولم يلق سعدًا، أخرجه أحمد (١٤٧٨)، ووكيع في الزهد (١١٨)، وأبو يعلى (٧٣١)، والشاشي (١٨٣)، وابن حبان (٨٠٩)، والبيهقي في شعب الإيمان (٥٥٣)، والقضاعي في مسند النهاية (١٢٢٠) والحربي في غريب الحديث ٢/ ٨٤٥، وعبد بن حميد (١٣٧)، وسيأتي ١٣/ ٢٤٠ برقم [٣٧٠٩٦].
Hazrat Saad narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The best remembrance is that which is done quietly.

٣١٦٤٣ - حدثنا ابو داود عن هشام عن يحيى عن رجل عن عائشة قالت: ⦗٣٠٣⦘ الذكر الخفي الذي لا يكتبه الحفظة، يضاعف على ما سواه من الذكر سبعين ضعفا (١).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) مجهول؛ لإبهام الراوي عن عائشة، وورد مرفوعًا أخرجه إسحاق كما في المطالب (٣٤١١)، وأبو يعلى (٤٧٣٨)، والبيهقي في الشعب (٥٥٥)، وابن عدي ٦/ ٣٩٩.
Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the reward of silent remembrance, which the angels cannot record, is increased seventy times compared to other forms of remembrance.

٣١٦٤٤ - حدثنا ابن فضيل وابو (معاوية) (١) عن عاصم عن ابي عثمان عن ابي موسى قال: كنا مع النبي ﷺ في سفر فجعل الناس يجهرون بالتكبير فقال النبي ﷺ:"اربعوا على انفسكم فإنكم (لا) (٢) تدعون اصم ولا غائبا، إنكم تدعونه (سميعا) (٣) قريبا وهو معكم" (٤).

(٢) في [ك]: (ليس).
(٣) في [جـ]: (جميعًا).
(٤) صحيح؛ أخرجه البخاري (٢٩٩٢)، ومسلم (٢٧٠٤).
Hazrat Abu Musa narrates that we were on a journey with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The people were proclaiming takbeer in loud voices. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Be gentle with yourselves. You are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent. Rather, you are calling upon One who is All-Hearing and Near, and He is with you.

٣١٦٤٥ - (١) حدثنا علي بن (هاشم) (٢) عن ابن ابي ليلى عن صدقة عن ابن عمر عن النبي ﷺ قال:"إن المصلي (إذا صلى) (٣) (يناجي) (٤) ربه فليعلم (احدكم) (٥) بما يناجيه ولا يجهر بعضكم على بعض" (٦).

(٢) في [هـ]: (حاكم).
(٣) سقط من: [ط، هـ].
(٤) في [ب]: (فناجي)، وفي [طـ]: (فياجي).
(٥) سقط من: [ط، هـ].
(٦) ضعيف؛ لسوء حفظ ابن أبي ليلى، أخرجه أحمد (٥٣٤٩)، وابن خزيمة (٢٢٣٧)، والبزار (٧٢٦/ كشف)، والطبراني (١٣٥٧٢)، والسهمي في تاريخ جرجان ص ١١٥ و ٣٨٩.
Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a person performs prayer, he is whispering to his Lord. Therefore, each of you should know what he is whispering to that Being. And none of you should raise his voice over others.

٣١٦٤٦ - (١) حدثنا وكيع عن عمران بن حدير عن ابي مجلز عن ابن عمر قال: ايها الناس، إنكم لا تدعون اصم ولا غائبا -يعني (٢) رفع الصوت في الدعاء (٣).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) في [ك]: زيادة (حدثنا أبو بكر قال).
(٢) في [أ، ب، ك]: زيادة (في).
(٣) صحيح.
Hazrat Abu Majliz narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: O people! You are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent, that is, he was speaking regarding raising the voice in supplication.

٣١٦٤٧ - حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن عبد الله بن (نسيب) (١) قال: صليت إلى جنب سعيد بن المسيب، فلما جلست في الركعة الثانية رفعت صوتي بالدعاء فانتهرني، فلما (انصرفت) (٢) قلت له: ما كرهت مني؟ قال: ظننت ان الله ليس بقريب منك.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Naseeb narrates that I prayed next to Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib. When I sat in the second rak'ah and my voice became loud while making supplication, he scolded me severely. When I finished the prayer, I asked him: What did you dislike about what I did? He replied: What do you think, is Allah not close to you?!

٣١٦٤٨ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن ابي هاشم عن مجاهد انه سمع رجلا يرفع صوته في الدعاء فرماه بالحصى.
Hazrat Abu Hashim narrates that Hazrat Mujahid heard a man raising his voice during supplication, so he threw a pebble at him.

٣١٦٤٩ - حدثنا وكيع عن ربيع عن (يزيد) (١) بن ابان عن انس (٢).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:

(٢) ضعيف؛ لضعف يزيد.
Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Rabi’ and Hasan both disliked that a person’s supplication should be heard by his companion.

٣١٦٥٠ - وعن ربيع عن الحسن انهما كرها ان يسمع الرجل جليسه شيئا من الدعاء.
31650 - From Rabi’ from al-Hasan that both of them disliked that a man should make his companion hear anything from the supplication.

٣١٦٥١ - حدثنا وكيع عن مبارك عن الحسن قال: كانوا يجتهدون في الدعاء: ولا تسمع إلا همسا.
Hazrat Mubarak says that Hasan stated: The Companions used to strive greatly in supplication. And nothing could be heard except a whisper.
