Hazrat Muhammad bin Fudayl states that his father, Hazrat Fudayl, said: Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz would not allocate a stipend except for the person who had recited the Qur'an. And my father was among those who had recited the Qur'an, so a stipend was allocated for him.

Hazrat Yasir bin Amr narrates that Hazrat Sa’d intended to fix two thousand for every person who had memorized the Qur’an, so Hazrat Umar wrote a letter to him: Will you give wages for Allah’s Book!

Muhammad says that when a considerable number of people gathered with Hazrat Abu Musa to learn the Qur'an, he wrote a letter to Hazrat Umar seeking his opinion on the matter. Hazrat Umar replied that some people memorize the Qur'an more than others. Similarly, among those who recite it, some are better than others.
