Narrations Regarding Refraining from Criticizing the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him)

٣٤٥٨٣ - حدثنا ابو معاوية ووكيع عن الاعمش عن ابي صالح عن ابي سعيد قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"لا تسبوا اصحابي، فوالذي نفسي بيده لو ان احدكم انفق مثل احد ذهبا ما ادرك مد احدهم ولا نصيفه" (١).

(١) صحيح؛ أخرجه البخاري (٣٦٧٣)، ومسلم (٢٥٤١).
Hazrat Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not revile my companions. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if any one of you were to spend gold equal to Mount Uhud, it would not reach even a mudd of what they spent, nor even half of it.

٣٤٥٨٤ - حدثنا حسين بن علي عن ابي موسى عن الحسن قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ لاصحابه:"انتم في الناس كالملح في (الطعام) (١)" (٢).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) في [ط، هـ]: (الطعم).
(٢) مرسل؛ الحسن تابعي، وقد ورد من حديث الحسن عن أنس، أخرجه الآجري في الشريعة (١١٥٧).
Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his companions: "You are among the people just like salt is in food." The narrator says: Then Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Food is not good without salt." After that, Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "What will become of the people whose salt is gone?"

٣٤٥٨٥ - قال: ثم قال الحسن: ولا يطيب الطعام إلا بالملح، ثم يقول: الحسن: كيف بقوم ذهب ملحهم.
34585 - He said: Then al-Hasan said: Food is not pleasant except with salt, then al-Hasan says: What about a people whose salt has gone?

٣٤٥٨٦ - حدثنا حسين بن علي عن مجمع بن يحيى عن سعيد بن ابي بردة (عن ابي بردة) (١) عن ابيه قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"اصحابي امنة لامتي، فإذا ذهب اصحابي اتى امتي ما يوعدون" (٢).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) سقط من: [ق].
(٢) صحيح؛ أخرجه مسلم (٢٥٣١)، وأحمد (١٩٥٦٦).
Hazrat Abu Burdah’s (may Allah have mercy on him) father narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: My companions are the trusted ones of my Ummah. So when my companions depart, then those things with which my Ummah has been warned will occur.

٣٤٥٨٧ - حدثنا ابو الاحوص عن منصور عن إبراهيم عن عبيدة عن عبد الله قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"خير امتي القرن الذين يلوني، ثم الذين يلونهم، ثم الذين يلونهم، ثم يجيء قوم تسبق شهادة احدهم يمينه، ويمينه شهادته" (١).

(١) صحيح؛ أخرجه البخاري (٢٦٥٨)، ومسلم (٢٥٣٣).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best era of my Ummah is the one which is joined with me. Then the era which is joined with those companions (may Allah be pleased with them). Then those people who are joined with them. Then a people will come in which a person's testimony will precede his oath, and his oath will precede his testimony.

٣٤٥٨٨ - حدثنا عبد الله بن إدريس عن ابيه عن جده عن جعدة بن هبيرة قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"خير الناس قرني، ثم الذين يلونهم، ثم الذين يلونهم، ثم الاخر اردى" (١).

(١) حسن؛ يزيد بن عبد الرحمن الأودي جد عبد اللَّه بن إدريس صدوق، أخرجه الحاكم ٣/ ١٩١، وعبد بن حميد (٣٨٣)، والطبراني (٢١٨٨)، وأبو يعلى كما في المطالب العالية (٤١٦١)، وابن أبي عاصم في الآحاد (٧٢٦)، والبخاري في التاريخ ٨/ ٣٤٧، وابن قانع ١/ ١٥٤، وابن أبي حاتم في المراسيل (٧٠).
Hazrat Ja'd bin Hubairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best of people are those of my generation, then those who follow them, then those whose time is joined with theirs, then others are inferior.

(٣٤٦٣٩) [*] حدثنا حسين بن علي عن زائدة عن السدي عن عبد الله (البهي) (١) (عن) (٢) عائشة قالت: سال رجل رسول الله ﷺ اي الناس خير؟ قال:"القرن الذي انا فيه، ثم الثاني ثم الثالث" (٣).

(34639) [*] Husayn ibn Ali narrated to us from Zaidah from al-Suddi from Abdullah (al-Bahiy) (1) (from) (2) Aisha who said: A man asked the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم , "Which of the people are best?" He said: "The generation I am in, then the second, then the third." (3).

٣٤٥٨٩ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا الاعمش قال: ثنا هلال بن (يساف) (١) قال: سمعت عمران بن حصين يقول: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"خير الناس قرني، ثم الذين يلونهم، ثم الذين يلونهم، (ثم الذين يلونهم) (٢)" (٣).

Hazrat Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best people are those of my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them, then those who follow them.

٣٤٥٩٠ - حدثنا غندر عن شعبة عن ابي جمرة قال: حدثني زهدم بن مضرب قال: سمعت عمران بن حصين يحدث ان رسول الله ﷺ كان يقول:"إن خيركم قرني، ثم الذين يلونهم، ثم الذين يلونهم"، فلا ادري قال رسول الله ﷺ: بعد قرنه مرتين او ثلاثا (١).

(١) صحيح؛ أخرجه البخاري (٦٤٢٨)، ومسلم (٢٥٣٥).
Hazrat Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: Indeed, the best people among you are those of my era, then those who are with them, then those who are with them. The narrator says: I do not know whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said this sentence twice or three times after mentioning his own era.

٣٤٥٩١ - حدثنا يحيى بن يعلى التيمي عن عبد الملك بن عمير عن قبيصة بن جابر قال: خطبنا عمر بباب الجابية فقال: إن رسول الله ﷺ قام فينا كمقامي فيكم ثم قال:"ايها الناس اتقوا الله في اصحابي، ثم الذين يلونهم، ثم الذين يلونهم، ثم ⦗١٧٠⦘ (يفشو) (١) الكذب (وشهادات) (٢) الزور" (٣).

(٣) مضطرب، اختلف فيه على عبد الملك في شيخه، أخرجه أحمد (١١٤)، والترمذي (٢١٦٥)، والنسائي (٩٢٢٤)، وابن ماجه (٢٣٦٣)، وابن حبان (٧٢٥٤)، والحاكم ١/ ١١٤، والطيالسي (٣١)، وأبو يعلى (١٤١)، والطحاوي ٤/ ١٥٠، والطبراني في الصغير (٢٤٥)، وعبد بن حميد (٢٣)، والحميدي (٣٢)، وعبد الرزاق (٢٠٧١٠)، والبخاري في التاريخ ٧/ ٣١٣، والحارث (٦٠٧/ بغية)، والعقيلي ٣/ ٣٠٢، وانظر: العلل للدارقطني ٣/ ١٢٢.
Hazrat Qabeesah bin Jabir (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood at the gate of Jabiyah and addressed us, saying: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us just as I am standing among you today. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O people! Fear Allah regarding my Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), then those who meet them, and then those who meet those who meet them. Then falsehood and false testimony will become widespread.
