It is narrated from Hazrat Salim bin Abi Ja'd that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was shown the martyrs of Mu'tah… in a dream. Accordingly, he saw Hazrat Ja'far in the form of an angel who had two wings and was drenched in blood, and he saw Hazrat Zaid on a throne opposite him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ibn Rawahah was sitting with them in such a manner as if he was turning away from them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Maisarah that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) received the news of the martyrdom of Hazrat Ja'far, Zaid bin Harithah, and Abdullah bin Rawahah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed while mentioning them: O Allah! Forgive Zaid. O Allah! Forgive Ja'far. And forgive Abdullah bin Rawahah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Qais bin Abi Hazim that Hazrat Usama came after the killing of his father, so the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up before him (to receive him), and the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) filled with tears. Then, when the next day came and Hazrat Usama came again and you stood in the same place, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Should I receive you today in the same way as I received you yesterday?"

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to say: The Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) never sent Zaid bin Harithah with any army except that he appointed him as the commander of that army. And if Zaid had remained after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) would have made him the caliph (as well).

It is narrated from Hazrat Aamir that Ummul Momineen Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to say that if Hazrat Zaid had been alive, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would have made him the caliph.

Hazrat Hisham bin Urwah narrates from his father that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent an army towards Mu'tah and appointed Hazrat Usama bin Zaid as their commander. Hazrat Abu Bakr and Hazrat Umar were also in this army... The narrator says: Some people objected to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointing Hazrat Usama as the commander over the army. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and delivered a sermon to the people and said: "Indeed, some of you are objecting to my appointing Usama as commander. These people object to Usama's appointment just as they previously objected to his father's appointment as commander. By Allah! Surely, he was worthy of being appointed commander and was the most beloved to me among the people. And his son, after him, is the most beloved to me among the people. I hope that he will be among the righteous people among you. You should intend good for him."

It is narrated from Hazrat Sha’bi that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) received the news of the martyrdom of Hazrat Ja’far bin Abi Talib, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left Hazrat Ja’far’s wife, Asma bint Umais, alone until she had wept and her grief was lessened. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to Hazrat Asma and offered her condolences, and he called for the sons of Hazrat Ja’far and prayed for them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for Hazrat Abdullah bin Ja’far that there be blessing in his trade. Thus, whenever Abdullah bought anything, he would profit from it. Then Hazrat Asma said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him),“O Messenger of Allah! These people think that we are not among the Muhajireen (emigrants).”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“The people are wrong. You have migrated twice: once you migrated to the Negus (in Abyssinia), and once you migrated to me.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I was present at the place of Mu'tah. When we did not find Hazrat Ja'far bin Abi Talib among the living, we began to search for him among the slain. Thus, we found him in such a state that he had about fifty wounds from swords and spears. And we found all these wounds on the front part of Hazrat Ja'far's body.
