Ibrahim bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I found my grandfather, father, and other relatives saying that they used to recite the iqamah in these words: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Hayya 'ala-s-Salah, Hayya 'ala-l-Falah, Qad qamatis Salah, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah.

Ibrahim bin Abu Mahdhurah, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates from his father, from his grandfather, that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) called Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) and taught him the method of giving the adhan, and instructed him to give the adhan in Makkah, in which "Allahu Akbar" is said twice, and the words of the iqamah are recited once.

Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him nineteen words for the Iqamah. The words of the Adhan are as follows: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah; Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah, Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah; Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah, Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah; Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; La ilaha illallah. The words of the Iqamah are said twice and are not repeated.

Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was a young boy. I gave the Fajr adhan in the presence of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This was the incident of Hunayn. When I reached "Hayya 'ala al-Falah," the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Include this phrase in it: 'As-salatu khayrun min an-nawm,'" meaning "Prayer is better than sleep."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Muslims came to Madinah Munawwarah, they used to gather at the time of prayer. They were not formally called for it. One day they discussed this matter, so someone said: You should ring a bell like the Christians’ bell. Some said: Blow a horn like the Jews. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said:“Why don’t you send some people so that they may announce the prayer?”So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“O Bilal! Stand up and give the adhan (call to prayer).”

Abdul Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "O Abu Mahdhurah! In every prayer's adhan, say the words twice, and in the adhan of the morning prayer, say: 'Prayer is better than sleep.'"

Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me nineteen words of the adhan. This was after the conquest of Makkah, while the iqamah consisted of seventeen words.

Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to recite the words of the adhan in even numbers and the words of the iqamah in odd numbers.

Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) instructed us: "We should deliver the adhan with pauses, and recite the words of iqamah quickly."

The muezzin of Bayt al-Maqdis, Abu Zubair, narrates: Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us and said: "When you give the adhan, do so deliberately and slowly; when you say the iqamah, say it quickly."
