Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrates: Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) reported this: An Ansari man, Abdullah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I saw in a dream that a man descended from the sky, wearing two garments. He landed on a wall of Madinah. He recited the words of the adhan twice, then he sat down, then he stood up and recited those words twice each." The narrator named Abu Bakr bin Ayyash stated: This is just as the adhan is given nowadays. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Teach this to Bilal." Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I also saw a dream similar to what he saw, but he preceded me in mentioning it."

Awn bin Abu Juhaifah narrates from his father: Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) called the adhan before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in which he said each phrase twice, and then he gave the iqamah in the same manner.

Awn bin Abu Juhaifah narrates from his father: Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) called the Adhan in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), with each phrase repeated twice. The phrases of the Iqamah were also repeated twice. The narrator named Abu Awn has reported these words: The phrases of the Adhan were each repeated twice, and the Iqamah was likewise.

Ibrahim Nakha'i narrates from Aswad: Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite the words of the adhan twice each, and the words of the iqamah twice each. He used to give the adhan with takbir, and he used to end it with takbir.

It is narrated about Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): His words of adhan and iqamah were recited twice each.

This narration is also transmitted with another chain. Ramadi says: Sufyan did not hear it from him.

Abdullah bin Muhammad narrates from his father, from his grandfather (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid, may Allah be pleased with him): When he saw the method of the adhan in a dream, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), so he gave the adhan. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), so he gave the iqamah.

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Sunnah is that when the muezzin gives the adhan for Fajr, after "Hayya 'ala al-falah" he should say "As-salatu khayrun min an-nawm" twice, and then say "Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah."

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Tasweeb is in the morning prayer. When the muezzin says "Hayya 'ala as-salah" and "Hayya 'ala al-falah" in the Fajr adhan, he will say "As-salatu khayrun min an-nawm."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates about Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): He said to his muezzin that when you reach "Hayya 'ala as-Salah" in the Fajr adhan, then say: "As-salatu khayrun min an-nawm, as-salatu khayrun min an-nawm."
