Aamir bin Sa’d narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas, may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to turn to the right when saying salam, until the whiteness of his blessed cheek would become visible, and he used to turn to the left when saying salam, until the whiteness of his blessed cheek would become visible. The chain of this narration is authentic.

Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his head to the right to say salam, the whiteness of his right cheek would become visible, and when he turned his head to the left to say salam, the whiteness of his left cheek would become visible. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would say salam with these words: "As-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah, as-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his face to the right for salam, he would say,“As-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah,”to the extent that the whiteness of his cheek would become visible, and when he turned his face to the left for salam, (it would be the same). There is a difference among narrators regarding the transmission of this narration from Abu Ishaq (may Allah have mercy on him); the other chain of this narration is more reliable.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I remember very well about the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to say takbeer every time he stood up, bowed, stood, and sat, and when turning to the right and to the left for salam, he used to say, "As-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah, as-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah," until the whiteness of his blessed cheek would become visible. (Sayyiduna Abdullah says) I have also seen Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) doing the same.

Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say salam twice (i.e., to both sides).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I may forget anything I wish, but I will never forget the way the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to give salam during prayer. He would turn to the right and to the left and say, "As-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah." After this, Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The sight of the whiteness of the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) cheeks is as if it is still before my eyes today.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say one salam in prayer, and he would say the words of salam facing forward. He (peace be upon him) would incline slightly to the right.

Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say salam once facing forward in prayer, but when he turned salam to the right side, he would also turn it to the left side.

Abdul Muhaymin narrates from his father, from his grandfather, that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say salam to the right side in prayer.

Abdul Muhaymin narrates from his father, who reports from his grandfather: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say one salam (salutation of peace), and he did not say any additional salam.
