Amr ibn Shu'ayb narrates from his father, from his grandfather: A woman came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said, "This is my son; my womb was a vessel for him, my lap was a refuge for him, my breast was a source of nourishment for him, and now his father wants to separate him from me." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "That cannot be; you have more right to (raise) him as long as you do not remarry."

Amr ibn Shu'aib narrates from his father, from his grandfather: A woman had a dispute with her (former) husband regarding her child, so the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "A woman has more right to (raise) her child, as long as she does not marry (another man)."

My womb was a vessel for him, my breast was a source of nourishment for him, and my lap was a shelter for him. Now his father wants to take him away from me." So the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "You have more right to him as long as you do not remarry."
