Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever you spend of silver (i.e., money), the most virtuous thing to spend it on is sacrificing (an animal) on the day of Eid al-Adha."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating the meat of a camel that eats filth and drinking its milk. It may only be used for carrying loads; people should not slaughter it until it has been fed fodder for forty days.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Budeel bin Waraqa Khuza'i (may Allah be pleased with him) mounted on a camel so that he could announce in the pathways of Mina that slaughtering should be done at the throat and the upper part of the chest, and do not hasten in taking the life (of the animal), and that the days of Mina are days of eating, drinking, and spending time with wives.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Can I take a loan to offer a sacrifice?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! It is a debt that will be repaid."

Nafi' bin Jubair narrates from his father that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "All the days of Tashreeq are days of sacrifice (i.e., sacrifice can be offered on these days)."

This narration is also transmitted with another chain of transmission.

Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "All the days of Tashreeq are days of sacrifice (i.e., sacrifice can be performed on them)."

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed a ram with horns, then made this supplication: "O Allah! This is on my behalf and on behalf of every member of my ummah who was not able to offer a sacrifice."

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that I was present with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) at the Eid al-Adha prayer in the Eidgah. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had completed the prayer and finished the sermon, he descended from his pulpit, went to a ram, slaughtered it with his blessed hand, and recited“Bismillah, Allahu Akbar”(In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest), and said:“This is on my behalf and on behalf of every member of my Ummah who could not offer a sacrifice.”

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates about the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): He slaughtered two rams, one white and black in color; one was on behalf of his Ummah and the other was on behalf of himself and his family.
