Asim bin Kulayb narrates the statement of a person belonging to the Ansar: We participated in a funeral with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). We reached the grave. I noticed that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was instructing the one digging the grave:Open the grave from the head and feet sides. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) was returning from there, a person came before him on behalf of a woman from the Quraysh, inviting him. He said: Such-and-such woman has invited you and your companions. The Prophet (peace be upon him) went to that woman’s house. When everyone sat down and the food was brought, the Prophet (peace be upon him) extended his blessed hand towards it, and the people also extended their hands. The Prophet (peace be upon him) began to eat, but during this, he withdrew his hand. The narrator says: We were sitting in that place where children sit with their fathers. Our father saw that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had turned out what he had eaten, so all those people struck their children’s hands and made them drop the pieces of meat they were holding. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:It seems to me that the meat of this goat was taken without the owner’s permission. So the woman sent a message: O Messenger of Allah! I had sent someone towards Baqi‘ to search for my goat, but he could not find it. I found out that my neighbor had also bought a goat, so I sent him a message, but he refused. We could not obtain it, then the wife of that man sent this goat. So the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:Feed this to the prisoners.

Asim bin Kulayb narrates from his father the statement of a man from the tribe of Muzaynah: A woman from the Quraysh prepared food for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and invited him and his companions. My father also took me along with him to the Prophet (peace be upon him). We sat before our father just as children sit before their father. The people did not begin eating until they saw that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had started eating. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) took a morsel, he then put it aside and said: "I sense in this goat's meat a taste as if it has been slaughtered without the permission of its owner." The woman said: O Messenger of Allah! This belongs to my brother, and my brother loves me the most. If there had been a better goat than this, it would not have been difficult for us to slaughter it. Now it is incumbent upon me to please him by giving him a better goat in return. But the Prophet (peace be upon him) refused to eat it, and by his order, that food was given to the prisoners.

Asim bin Kulayb narrates from his father that an Ansari related this hadith to me: When I was a young child, I went with my father to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), after which he mentioned the hadith as usual, in which these words are: That woman said: I sent a message to my brother Amir bin Abu Waqqas because a goat had been bought from Baqi', but my brother was not present there, so his wife sent that goat to me.

Abdulwahid bin Ziyad narrates that I asked Imam Abu Hanifa (may Allah have mercy on him): From where did you derive this ruling that if a person disposes of another's wealth without his permission, then he should give the profits in charity? So Imam Abu Hanifa (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: I derived it from the hadith narrated by Asim bin Kulayb.

Sayyiduna Miqdam bin Ma’di Karib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of the Battle of Khaybar declared certain things to be forbidden. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:A time will soon come when a person will be reclining on his cushion, and when my hadith is narrated to him, he will say: ‘The command of Allah’s Book is sufficient between us and you. Whatever we find lawful in it, we will consider lawful, and whatever we find unlawful in it, we will consider unlawful.’(The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:)Whatever Allah’s Messenger declares unlawful is just like what Allah, the Exalted, has declared unlawful.

Sayyiduna Miqdam bin Ma’di Karib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:I have been given the Book and also that which is like it (i.e., the Sunnah has been given to me). Soon there will come a time when a person with a full belly, reclining on his bed, will say: ‘Between us and you is Allah’s Book; whatever is declared lawful in it, we will consider lawful, and whatever is declared unlawful in it, we will consider unlawful.’(The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:)It is not so. It is not permissible to eat any predatory animal with sharp teeth, or to eat a domesticated donkey, or to pick up the lost property of a person under a covenant. However, if it is something that is not needed, then the ruling will be different. Whoever becomes a guest of a people and they do not show him hospitality, then he has the right to forcibly take food from them according to his need.

Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that on the day of the Battle of Khaybar, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating the meat of horses, mules, donkeys, predatory animals with sharp teeth (the narrator is then in doubt, perhaps these are the words:) and birds with sharp claws.

This narration is also transmitted with another chain of narration; however, this narration is weak because Waqidi has stated that Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam after the conquest of Khaybar.

Yahya bin Maqdam narrates that he heard his grandfather saying: Once, I and ten or perhaps a few more people from my tribe had not eaten food for two or three days. They had tied a horse to slaughter it. I went to Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) and informed him about our intention regarding the horse. So Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If those people had slaughtered it, they would have done wrong, because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had, on the occasion of the Battle of Khaybar, declared the wealth of the dhimmis, and the meat of donkeys, horses, and mules to be unlawful. Then Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered that those people be given two or perhaps one mudd of grain, and said that when we face any expedition, we will inform you.
