Chapters on Congregational Prayer
بَابُ تَخْفِيفِ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالنَّاسِ مَعَ إِتْمَامِهَا
Chapter on the Prophet's lightening the prayer for the people while completing it
Hadith Number: 2558
عن حميد عن انس بن مالك رضي الله عنه قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم من اتم الناس صلاة واوجزه
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was the one who perfected the prayer most among the people and was also the one who lightened it the most.

Hadith Number: 2559
(ومن طريق ثان) عن قتادة عن انس رضي الله عنه قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم من اخف الناس صلاة في تمام
(Second chain of narration) Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was the one who lightened the prayer the most among the people, but his prayer was also complete.

Hadith Number: 2560
عن ثابت عن انس رضي الله عنه قال: ما صليت بعد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم صلاة اخف من صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم في تمام ركوع وسجود
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I have not prayed behind anyone who completed the bowing and prostration while also making the prayer lighter (shorter) than him.

Hadith Number: 2561
عن قتادة عن انس رضي الله عنه ان نبي الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال: ((إني لادخل الصلاة وانا اريد ان اطيلها فاسمع بكاء صبي فاتجاوز في صلاتي مما اعلم من شدة وجد امه من بكائه))
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, I enter into prayer intending to prolong it, but when I hear the cry of a child, I shorten it, because I know that his mother will be greatly distressed by his crying.

Sayyiduna Abi Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) also narrates a similar hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).

Hadith Number: 2563
حدثنا عبد الرزاق وابن بكر انا ابن جريج اخبرني عبد الله بن عثمان عن نافع بن سرجس قال: عدنا ابا واقد البكري وقال ابن بكر البدري، وفي رواية الليثي وفي اخرى الكندي، في وجعه الذي مات فيه، فسمعه يقول: كان النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم اخف الناس صلاة على الناس واطول الناس صلاة لنفسه
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) once performed the Fajr prayer in a shortened manner. (When he finished,) someone said: O Messenger of Allah! Why did you shorten the prayer so much today? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: I heard the sound of a child crying, and I thought that his mother might be praying with us, so I wanted to finish quickly for the sake of the child’s mother.

Hadith Number: 2564
عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه سمع النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم صوت صبي في الصلاة فخفف الصلاة
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that (one day) the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the sound of a child (crying) during the prayer, so he shortened the prayer because of this.

Hadith Number: 2565
عن عبد الله بن الزبير عن انس رضي الله عنه قال: ما رايت إماما اشبه بصلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم من إمامكم هٰذا لعمر بن عبد العزيز، وهو بالمدينة يومئذ، وكان عمر لا يطيل القراءة
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I found your Imam to be the most similar to the prayer of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said this regarding Umar bin Abdul Aziz, who was in Madinah Munawwarah at that time, and he did not recite long (in prayer).

Hadith Number: 2566
عن جابر بن سمرة رضي الله عنه قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يصلي بنا الصلاة المكتوبة ولا يطيل فيها ولا يخفف، وسطا من ذلك، وكان يؤخر العتمة
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to lead us in the obligatory prayers; he (peace and blessings be upon him) would neither make them lengthy nor very short, but would keep them moderate. He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to delay the ‘Isha prayer.

Hadith Number: 2567
(وعنه ايضا) قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم إذا صلى الفجر قعد في مصلاه حتى تطلع الشمس، قال: وكان يقرا في صلاة الفجر بـ {قٓ والقرآن المجيد} وكانت صلاته بعد تخفيفا
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would lead the Fajr prayer, he would remain seated on his prayer mat until sunrise. In the Fajr prayer, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite Surah Qaf, and after that, his prayer would be brief.
