When Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "You have no insignificance in the eyes of your family. If you wish, I can appoint seven nights for you, otherwise three nights, then I will begin the division (i.e., fairness)."

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married Safiyyah bint Huyayy (may Allah be pleased with her) and stayed with her for three days."

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When a man marries a virgin after a widow, he should stay with her for seven days, then divide (his time), and if he marries a widow, he should stay with her for three days." Khalid says: If I say that this hadith is marfu‘, I would be truthful, but he said: "This is the Sunnah."

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated the same.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "If someone marries a virgin after a widow, he should stay for three days, and if he marries a widow after a virgin, he should stay for two days."

Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) also said the same as Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him).

The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) said to Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) when she came to him after marriage: "If you wish, I can set aside seven nights for you, and then also seven nights for my other wives."

Yahya bin Sa'id (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a person related a similar incident.
