Book of Divorce
بَابُ الرَّجُلِ لَهُ أَرْبَعُ نِسْوَةٍ فَيُطَلِّقُ إِحْدَاهُنَّ
Chapter on a man with four wives who divorces one of them
Hadith Number: 1750
حدثنا سعيد , قال: إذا عابه سعيد بن المسيب , فاي شيء بقي؟.
Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) objected, "Then what room is left for anything else?"

نا نا هشيم، انا عبد الملك، عن عطاء، عن عبيد بن عمير، قال: جاءت امراة إلى عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه، فقالت: إن زوجها غاب عنها فاطال الغيبة،" فامرها ان تربص اربع سنين، ففعلت، ثم اتته فامر وليه ان يطلقها، فطلقها، وامرها ان تعتد ثلاثة قروء، ففعلت، ثم اتته فامرها ان تعتد اربعة اشهر وعشرا، ففعلت، فامرها ان تزوج" .
A woman came to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) whose husband was missing. He ordered her to wait for four years, then ordered her guardian to divorce her, then to observe the waiting period of three menstrual cycles, then the waiting period of four months and ten days, then permitted her to marry.
