Chapter on what is reported regarding the impotent man
Hadith Number: 2009
نا نا هشيم، انا ابن ابي ليلى، عن الشعبي، عن عمر ، انه كان يقول في الرجل إذا دخلت عليه امراته فلم يصل إليها قال:" تؤجل سنة، فإن قدر عليها، وإلا فرق بينهما" .
It is reported about Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to say: "If a man marries a woman but does not consummate the marriage, he should be given a respite of one year. Then, if he consummates the marriage, it is fine; otherwise, separation should be effected."

Hadith Number: 2010
نا هشيم، انا ابو حرة، عن الحسن، انه كان يقول في الرجل يفجر بالامة، ثم يشتريها قال:" كان يكره ان يقربها" .
Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say that if a person commits adultery with a slave woman and later buys her, he disliked establishing relations with her.

نا نا هشيم، انا محمد بن سالم، عن الشعبي، ان عمر ، كتب إلى شريح في الرجل إذا لم يصل إلى امراته انه يؤجله من يوم تدفع إليه سنة، فإن وصل إليها، وإلا فرق بينهما" .
It is narrated from Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had written that if a man is unable to have intercourse with his wife, he should be given a respite of one year; if he is still unable, then separation should be effected.

Hadith Number: 2012
نا نا هشيم، انا يحيى بن سعيد، ان معاذا ابا حليمة، تزوج ابنة النعمان بن حارثة، فلم يصل إليها" فاجله عمر سنة، فلم يصل إليها قال: ففرق بينهما" .
Yahya bin Sa'id (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave Mu'adh Aba Halimah a respite of one year for not having intercourse with his wife. When he was unable to do so, he separated the two.

نا نا هشيم، انا يحيى بن سعيد، حدثني يحيى بن عبد الرحمن الانصاري، ان عمر حيث كان فلم يصل إليها فرق بينهما، وقال:" الحمد لله الذي كف على النعمان ابنته" .
It is narrated from Yahya bin Abdur Rahman Ansari (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) separated a couple due to inability to have marital relations and said: "All praise is due to Allah who saved the daughter of Nu'man."

ثنا هشيم، نا عبيدة، عن إبراهيم، انه كان يقول:" يؤجل سنة من يوم يرفع إلى السلطان فإن وصل إليها، وإلا فرق بينهما".
Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say that if there is no intercourse, the matter should be brought before the ruler and a period of one year should be given; if it still does not happen, then separation should be carried out.

Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, also used to say the same.

نا هشيم، انا مغيرة، عن الشعبي، عن الحارث بن عبد الله بن ابي ربيعة،" انه اجل رجلا لم يصل إلى اهله عشرة اشهر" .
It is reported about Hazrat Harith bin Abdullah bin Abi Rabi'ah, may Allah have mercy on him, that he gave a man who was unable to have intercourse with his wife a respite of ten months.

نا هشيم، انا مغيرة، عن إبراهيم، انه كان يقول: " إذا لم يصل إليها اجل اجلا سنة، ورفع إلى السلطان، فإن وصل إليها، وإلا فرق بينهما، ولها الصداق كاملا، وعليها العدة" .
Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say: "If a man is unable to have intercourse with his wife, he should be brought before the ruler and given a respite of one year. If he is still unable after that, then separation should be carried out, the woman should receive her full dowry, and she should also observe the waiting period ('iddah)."

نا هشيم، انا يونس، عن الحسن، قال: " إذا وصل إليها مرة واحدة ثم حبس عنها لم يؤجل، وهي امراته" .
Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say: "If a man has intercourse once and then is prevented, no respite is given, and the woman remains his wife."
