Chapter on Prayer Times - The reason why the Prophet did not always delay the night prayer.
Hadith Number: 1539
اخبرنا ابو عروبة ، بحران، قال: حدثنا محمد بن بشار ، قال: حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد ، قال: حدثنا عبيد الله بن عمر ، قال: حدثني سعيد بن ابي سعيد المقبري ، عن ابي هريرة ، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: " لولا ان اشق على امتي، لاخرت العشاء إلى ثلث الليل او شطر الليل" .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "If I did not fear hardship for my Ummah, I would have delayed the ‘Isha prayer until one third of the night (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) or until half of the night."
