Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – On the report refuting the claim that reaching fifteen years of age is not adulthood.
Hadith Number: 4728
اخبرنا محمد بن إسحاق بن إبراهيم مولى ثقيف، قال: حدثنا الفضل بن سهل الاعرج ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن بكر ، عن ابن جريج، قال: اخبرني عبيد الله بن عمر ، عن نافع ، عن ابن عمر ، قال: " عرضت على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وانا ابن اربع عشرة سنة، فلم يجزني، ولم يرني بلغت، ثم عرضت عليه وانا ابن خمس عشرة سنة، فاجازني" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I was presented before the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) when I was fourteen years old, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not permit me (to participate in battle). In the opinion of the Prophet (peace be upon him), I had not yet reached maturity. Then, when I was presented before him at the age of fifteen, the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave me permission.
