Chapter on Names and Nicknames – Warning against naming one’s slaves with certain well-known names
Hadith Number: 5837
اخبرنا الفضل بن الحباب ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن كثير ، قال: اخبرنا سفيان ، عن سلمة بن كهيل ، عن هلال بن يساف ، عن سمرة بن جندب ، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " لا تسم عبدك افلح، ولا نجيحا، ولا رباحا، ولا يسارا، وانظروا ان لا تزيدوا عليه" .
Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not name your slave Aflah, Najeeh, Rabah, or Yasar. You should consider that you do not add anything to it."
