It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah does not accept the prayer of an adult woman without a head covering." In the narration of Janab Bandar, these words are present: "It is not appropriate for any woman to perform prayer... (i.e., without a head covering)." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that by Humaid bin Abdullah is meant al-Kharrat.

Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked Sayyidah Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her), "Did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) pray in the garment in which he had been intimate with you?" She replied, "Yes, when he (peace be upon him) did not see any impurity in it (he would perform the prayer in it)." In the narration of Ibn Ishaq, it is stated: "In the garment in which he (peace be upon him) had lain with you (he would pray in it)."

Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I said,“O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), sometimes I go out for hunting and the time for prayer comes while I am wearing only a shirt.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Tie it, even if you have to fasten it with a thorn.”

Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I said: I go out for hunting and I have on me only a shirt or a cloak, should I tie it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Yes, even if you tie it with a thorn.”On another occasion, he said:“Fasten it (tie it), even if it is with a thorn.”Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Musa bin Ibrahim refers to Ibn Abdur Rahman bin Abdullah bin Abi Rabee’ah. ‘Ataaf bin Khalid has also mentioned his lineage in this way. However, in my opinion, his lineage is as follows: Ibn Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Abdur Rahman bin Ma’mar bin Abi Rabee’ah. His father Ibrahim is the one whom Shurahbil bin Sa’d mentioned, that he and Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Abdur Rahman bin Ma’mar bin Abi Rabee’ah presented themselves before Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), and this is mentioned in a long hadith.

Sayyiduna Zaid bin Aslam narrates that I saw Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) praying with his button open, so I asked him about this, and he replied that he had seen the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) doing so.

The Imam, through his esteemed teacher Muhammad bin Yahya’s chain of narration, reports from Walid in a manner similar to the above. However, he did not mention the words that I asked him and said that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) praying with his button undone.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Allah does not look towards the prayer of the person who drags his lower garment out of pride and arrogance." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that there is a difference among the narrators regarding the chain of this hadith; some have narrated it from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) instead of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both). I have explained this chapter in the Book of Clothing.

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been commanded to prostrate on seven parts and that I should not gather my hair or clothes."

For in the carrying by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, [‏بِنْتَ زَيْنَبَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا‏] , there is an indication that if her clothes were such that prayer would not be valid in them, he would not have carried her, for there is no difference between wearing an impure garment and carrying it during prayer.

Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah bin Rabi’i (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to seat the daughter of Sayyiduna Abu Al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) (i.e., his granddaughter) on his neck during prayer. Then when he (peace be upon him) would go into prostration, he would put her down (on the ground), and when he (peace be upon him) would stand up, he would pick her up again.
