144| Chapter on the concession for the sick to miss the congregation
Hadith Number: 1650
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that while the Muslims were performing the Fajr prayer on Monday and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was leading them in prayer, suddenly the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) lifted the curtain of the chamber of Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and looked at them. Then a beautiful smile spread across the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stepped back on his heels to join the row, thinking that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to come for the prayer. And Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Muslims, out of happiness at the arrival of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), intended to break their prayers. But the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) signaled to them to complete their prayer. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned to the chamber and let the curtain fall between himself and them. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away on the same day. This narration is from Muhammad Uzair, and he has narrated the hadith with the best context and completeness compared to the other narrators. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that in the narration of Abdul Warith bin Saeed, it is mentioned that "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not come to us (for prayer) for three days." I have mentioned this narration in Kitab al-Kabir.

146| Chapter on the concession to miss the congregation if one needs to relieve himself
Hadith Number: 1652
Sayyiduna Urwah narrates from his father that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Arqam used to travel, and people would accompany him and follow him in prayer. He would give the adhan for his companions and also lead them in prayer. He says that one day, the adhan was called for prayer, so he said, "Let one of you lead the congregation, because I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'When any of you needs to relieve himself and the prayer is established, he should relieve himself first.'"

147| Chapter on the concession for the blind to miss the congregation in rain and floods
Hadith Number: 1653
Hazrat Mahmood bin Rabee’ narrates that Sayyiduna ‘Itbaan bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and among the Ansar who had the honor of participating in the Battle of Badr, came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said:“O Messenger of Allah, my eyesight has become weak and I lead my people in prayer. So when the rainy season comes, a valley flows between me and them. Therefore, I cannot go to their mosque to lead them in prayer. For this reason, I wish, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that you come and perform prayer in my house so that I may make that place my prayer area.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“I will soon fulfill (your wish), insha’Allah.”Sayyiduna ‘Itbaan bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The next day, after the sun had risen, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sought permission, so I granted him permission (welcomed him). He entered the house without sitting outside, then asked:“In which part of your house do you wish me to pray?”He says: I pointed to a corner of the house. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood there and said the takbeer. We also stood behind him and formed a row, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed two rak‘ahs and then gave salam. Then we seated the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for you for khazeer (a special dish made of meat and flour). He says: (During this time) people from the neighborhood kept coming until a large number of people gathered in our house. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked:“Where is Malik bin Dukhshum?”A man replied: He is a hypocrite; he does not love Allah and His Messenger (so he did not come on your arrival). Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Do not say such about him. Do you not know that he professes «لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا الله» for the sake of Allah’s pleasure?”That man said: Allah and His Messenger know best. We only see his association and sincere friendship and love with the hypocrites. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Indeed, Allah has made the Fire forbidden for the person who sincerely professes «لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا الله» for the sake of Allah’s pleasure.”Imam Muhammad Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Husayn bin Muhammad Ansari, who is a chief of Banu Salim, about the hadith of Hazrat Mahmood bin Rabee’, and he confirmed it.”

In the narration of Ma'mar from Imam Zuhri, these words are present: "Indeed, my eyesight has weakened." These words are said about a person whose vision is impaired and weak, even if he can see a little. And it is also possible that he had become completely blind and could not see anything. I have no doubt about this, that later he was completely deprived of sight; he could not see at all. But when he asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) this question, at that time there was some defect in his eyesight (he was not completely blind), to the extent that I became certain from the words of this narration (that indeed, at the time of the question, he was not completely blind). In the narration of Ma'mar, the words are: Sayyiduna 'Itban bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I presented myself before the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said, "Indeed, my eyesight has weakened, and the flood comes between me and the mosque of my people. (Therefore) I wish that you come and perform prayer at a place in my house so that I may make it a place of prayer for myself." So the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "I will fulfill this wish of yours, inshaAllah." Then the complete hadith was narrated.

148| Chapter on the permissibility of missing the congregation during travel and the command to pray in dwellings on rainy or cold nights
Hadith Number: Q1655
With mention of a brief report, not detailed, if the report were taken at its apparent meaning, then attending the congregation on a rainy and cold night would be disobedience, since the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had commanded to pray in the dwellings.
Hadith Number: 1655
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he gave the call to prayer (adhan) and then called out these words: «صَلُّوا فِيْ رِحَالِكُمْ» "Pray in your places and homes." Then he explained that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do the same during a journey on a rainy and cold night. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the phrase "rainy and cold night" has two meanings: one is that it refers to a night in which there is both rain and cold; and it is also possible that what is meant is a rainy night and a cold night (separately), even if both reasons are not combined in one night. And in the narration of Hammad bin Zaid, there is evidence that what is meant is either one meaning—a rainy night or a cold night.

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey and the night was dark or it was raining, the Messenger of Allah’s (peace and blessings be upon him) mu’adhdhin would give the adhan or a caller would announce — «أَن صَلُّوا فِيْ رِحَالِكُمْ» “Pray in your dwellings and tents.”
