Jabir reported that Allah's Apostle ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) forbade eating of the flesh of sacrificed animals beyond three (days). but afterwards said: Eat, make a provision, and keep it.

Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Ali ibn Mushir narrated to us. And Yahya ibn Ayyub narrated to us, Ibn 'Ulayyah narrated to us, both of them from Ibn Jurayj, from 'Ata', from Jabir. And Muhammad ibn Hatim narrated to me—and the wording is his—Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, 'Ata' narrated to us, he said: I heard Jabir ibn 'Abdullah say: "We used not to eat from the meat of our sacrificial animals beyond three (days) at Mina, but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, permitted us, and said: 'Eat and take provisions.' I said to 'Ata': Did Jabir say, 'until we came to al-Madinah'? He said: Yes."

Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported: We did not eat the flesh of sacrificed animals beyond three (days), but then Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) commanded us to make it a provision for journey and cat it (beyond three days).

Jabir reported: We made provision (out of the flesh of sacrificed animals for our journey) to Madinah during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) .

Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Abdul A'la narrated to us, from al-Jurayri, from Abu Nadrah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri. And Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Abdul A'la narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Abu Nadrah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O people of Madinah, do not eat the meat of the sacrifices for more than three [days] ." Ibn al-Muthanna said: "three days." So they complained to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that they had dependents, servants, and helpers. So he said: "Eat, feed others, and keep or store [it] ." Ibn al-Muthanna said: Abdul A'la was uncertain.

Salama bin al-Akwa' reported Allah's Messenger (way peace be upon him) having said: He who sacrifices (animal) among you nothing should be left in his house (out of its flesh) on the morning of the third day. When it was the next year they (his Companions) said: Should we do this year as we did daring the previous year? Thereupon he said: Don't do that, for that was a year when the people were hard pressed (on account of poverty). so I wanted that the (flesh) might be distributed amongst them.

Thauban reported that Allah's Messenger (way peace be upon him) slaughtered his sacrificial animal and then said: Thauban, make his meat usable (for journey), and I continuously served him that until he arrived in Madinah.

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Mu'awiyah bin Salih with the same chain of transmitters.

Thauban, the freed slave of Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) , reported: Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said to me on the occasion of Hajjat-al-Wada' (the Farewell Pilgrimage): Make the flesh usable. So I made it usable (for him) and he ate it constantly until he reached Madinah.

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Yabya bin Hamza with the same chain of transmitters, but he did not say: On the occasion of Hajjat-al-Wada'.
