Prayer at Eclipse
Hadith Number: 520
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), there was a solar eclipse. The Prophet led the people in prayer; first, he stood for a long time, then bowed (ruku‘) and remained in ruku‘ for a long time. After rising from ruku‘, he stood again for a long time, but this standing was a bit shorter than the first. Then he bowed again and remained in ruku‘ for a long time, but shorter than the first. Then he went into prostration (sajda) and stayed in sajda for a long time. In the second rak‘ah, he did the same. When he finished, the eclipse had cleared. After that, the Prophet (peace be upon him) delivered a sermon. After praising Allah, he said:“The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of anyone’s death or life. When you see an eclipse, supplicate to Allah, say takbir, pray, and give charity.”Then he said:“O people of Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) ummah, know that no one is more possessive (protective) than Allah regarding His servant or maidservant committing adultery. O ummah of Muhammad (peace be upon him), by Allah, if you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much.”

The respected wife of the Messenger of Allah, Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), narrated that during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), there was a solar eclipse. At that time, he went to the mosque and the people formed rows behind him. He said the takbir and recited the Qur'an for a long time. Then he said the takbir and performed a long bowing (ruku‘). Then, after saying "Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah," he stood up and did not prostrate (after rising from ruku‘). Then he recited the Qur'an for a long time again, but less than the first recitation. Then, with the takbir, he went into ruku‘ and remained in ruku‘ for a long time, but less than the first ruku‘. Then, with the takbir, he went into ruku‘ and remained in ruku‘ for a long time, but less than the first ruku‘. Now, after saying "Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah" and "Rabbana wa lakal hamd," he went into prostration. In the second rak‘ah, he did the same (in both rak‘ahs), making a total of four ruku‘ and four prostrations. Before the prayer was finished, the sun had already cleared. After the prayer, he stood and delivered a sermon. First, he praised Allah as He deserves, then said: "The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. Their eclipse does not occur due to the death or life of anyone. But when you see an eclipse, hasten to prayer immediately."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that when there was a solar eclipse, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stood up (for prayer) and recited a long Surah, then he bowed and made a very long bowing, then he raised his head, after which he started another Surah, then he bowed and completed the bowing, finishing that rak'ah and went into prostration. Then in the second rak'ah, he did the same. After finishing the prayer, he said that the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah, so when you see an eclipse in them, start praying until it becomes clear. And look, I have seen from this very place all those things that have been promised to me, to the extent that I even saw that I wanted to take a bunch from Paradise. You people must have seen that I was moving forward, and I also saw Hell (in such a state that) some parts of the fire were consuming other parts. You people must have seen that after witnessing this terrifying scene of Hell, I moved back. I saw Amr bin Luhayy inside Hell; he is the person who started the custom of the idol of the bull among the Arabs.

Mention of Grave Punishment in Eclipse Prayer
Hadith Number: 523
A Jewish woman came to the purified wife of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), to ask for something, and she prayed, "May Allah protect you from the punishment of the grave." Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), "Will people be punished in the grave?" Upon this, he replied, "I seek refuge with Allah from that." Then, one morning, you mounted (to go somewhere), after which a solar eclipse occurred. You returned after the day had advanced and, passing through the chambers of your wives, stood (in the mosque) for prayer. The companions also made intention behind you. You stood for a very long time, then bowed for a very long time. After that, you stood up, and this time the standing was again long, but a little less than before. Then you bowed, and this time also remained in bowing for a long time, but a little less than the previous bowing. Then you raised your head from bowing and went into prostration. Now you stood up again and stood for a long time, but less than the previous standing. Then you bowed for a long time, but less than the previous bowing. Then you raised your head from bowing and, this time too, remained standing for a long time, but less than before (the fourth time). Then you bowed and remained in bowing for a long time, but shorter than before. When you raised your head from bowing, you went into prostration. Finally, you completed the prayer in this manner. After that, you said whatever Allah willed you to say. In that sermon, you instructed the people to seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave.

What Was Shown to Prophet in Eclipse Prayer of Paradise and Hell
Hadith Number: 524
Hazrat Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I came to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she was praying. I asked, "What is the matter with the people?" She pointed towards the sky (meaning the sun was eclipsed). Meanwhile, people stood up (for prayer). Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Allah is Pure." I asked, "(Is this eclipse) a (special) sign?" She nodded her head, meaning yes! Then I (also stood up for prayer) until I began to faint, so I started pouring water over my head. Then (after the prayer) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praised Allah and described His attributes, then said, "Whatever I had not been shown before, today I have seen all of it in this place, to the extent that I saw Paradise and Hell as well. And it was revealed to me that you will be tested in your graves, like or near to which word Lady Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said, I do not know. Fatima says (meaning) you will be tested like the trial of Dajjal. It will be said (inside the grave), 'What do you know about this man?' So the believer or the one with certainty, which word Lady Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said, I do not remember. He will say, 'He is Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who came to us with Allah's guidance and proof, so we accepted him and followed him. He is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).' He will say this three times. Then it will be said to him, 'Sleep in peace, indeed We have known that you believed in Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).' And in any case, the hypocrite or the doubtful person, I do not know which word Lady Asma said among them, so he (the hypocrite or the doubtful person) will say, 'Whatever I heard people saying, I (also) said the same.' (Other than that, I do not know anything.)

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas narrates that during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), there was a solar eclipse, so he performed prayer. He stood for so long that Surah Al-Baqarah could be recited in that time. Then he bowed (ruku‘) for a long time, though it was a little shorter than the first standing. Then he went into prostration (sajdah). After rising from prostration, he again stood for a long time, but it was shorter than the first standing. Then he performed a long bowing, which was also shorter than the previous bowing. After raising his head from bowing, he stood for a long time again, and this standing was also shorter than the previous one. Then he performed (the fourth) bowing, which was also very long but a little shorter than before. Then he prostrated, and when he finished the prayer, the sun had become clear. After that, he delivered a sermon and said:“The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah, and they do not eclipse because of anyone’s death or life. Therefore, when you see an eclipse, remember Allah.”The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said,“O Messenger of Allah, we saw that you moved a little forward in your place during the prayer and then stepped back.”He replied,“I saw Paradise and wanted to pluck a bunch (of its fruit). If I could have plucked it, you would have eaten from it as long as the world remains. And I was also shown Hell. I have never seen a more terrifying sight than that. I saw that most of its inhabitants are women.”Someone asked,“O Messenger of Allah, what is the reason for that?”He replied,“Because of their ingratitude (kufr).”It was asked,“Do they disbelieve in Allah?”He said,“They are ungrateful to their husbands and deny favors. You may do good to a woman all your life, but if she sees something (from you) that she dislikes, she will say, ‘I have never seen any good from you.’”
