It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Khuzamah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! These treatments we use through medicine, incantations, and preventive measures, what is your opinion about them? Do they repel anything from Allah Almighty's decree?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These things are also from Allah Almighty's decree."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that one day he was riding behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O boy! I am going to teach you some words; Allah Almighty will benefit you through them. Guard (the commandments of) Allah, He will guard you. Guard (the commandments of) Allah, you will find Him before you. Whenever you ask, ask from Allah, and whenever you seek help, seek help from Allah. And know that if the entire Ummah were to gather together to benefit you with something, they would not be able to benefit you except with that which Allah has written for you. Similarly, if the entire Ummah were to gather together to harm you with something, they would not be able to harm you except with that which Allah has written against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried."

(Second chain) There is a similar narration, but with the addition of these words: "So recognize Allah in times of ease, He will recognize you in times of hardship. Thus, if all of creation intends to benefit you with something that Allah has not written for you, (no matter what they do) they will not be able to do so. Similarly, if they resolve to harm you with something that Allah has not decreed for you, they will not have the power to do so either. So know that there is great good in being patient over disliked matters, and help comes with patience, relief comes with hardship, and ease comes with difficulty."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A dispute arose between Adam (peace be upon him) and Musa (peace be upon him). Musa (peace be upon him) said: O Adam! You are our father, you caused us to fail and expelled us from Paradise. In another narration, he said: Are you that Adam whom his mistake expelled from Paradise? Adam (peace be upon him) said: O Musa! Are you the one whom Allah Almighty selected with His Word and His Messengership, and wrote the Torah for you with His own hand? Now, do you blame me for something which Allah Almighty had written for me forty years before my creation?" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "In this way, Adam (peace be upon him) prevailed over Musa (peace be upon him), Adam (peace be upon him) prevailed over Musa (peace be upon him)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“It is from the good fortune of the son of Adam that he seeks goodness from Allah Almighty, and it is also from the good fortune of the son of Adam that he is pleased with the decision of Allah Almighty. And it is from the misfortune of the son of Adam that he does not seek goodness from Allah Almighty, and it is also from his wretchedness that he is displeased with the decision of Allah Almighty.”

Sayyiduna Suhaib bin Sinan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am amazed at the affair of the believer, for verily all of his affair is good, and this (honor) is for no one except the believer. If something pleasing befalls him and he is grateful, then that is better for him; and if something harmful befalls him and he is patient, then that is better for him."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who is truthful and trusted, told us and said:“Indeed, your creation is such that you are kept as a drop of fluid in your mother’s womb for forty days, then as a clot of blood for forty days, then as a lump of flesh for forty days, then an angel is sent to it and he breathes the soul into it and is commanded with four words: its provision, its death, its deeds, and whether it will be wretched or blessed. So, by the One besides whom there is no deity! Indeed, one of you performs the deeds of the people of Paradise until there is only a hand’s span between him and Paradise, but the decree overtakes him and he ends his life with the deeds of the people of Hell, so he enters Hell. Likewise, a man performs the deeds of the people of Hell until there is only a hand’s span between him and Hell, but the decree overtakes him and he ends his life with the deeds of the people of Paradise, so he enters Paradise.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the drop of fluid remains in the womb for forty days or nights, Allah Almighty sends an angel to it. Then the angel asks: O my Lord! What is its provision? So it is answered. Then he asks: O my Lord! When will its death be? So it is informed. Then he asks: O my Lord! Will it be male or female? So it is informed. Then he says: O my Lord! Will it be wretched or fortunate? Then this too is informed to him."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhaifah bin Asid Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the drop of fluid remains in the womb for forty or forty-five nights, an angel enters upon it and asks: O my Lord! What is the command—will it be wretched or fortunate? Male or female? Then Allah Almighty informs him, and both these things are written down. Then he says: What is the command—male or female? Then Allah Almighty informs him, and these things are also written down. Then its deeds, lifespan, calamities, and provision are written, and the scroll is rolled up, and nothing can be added to it nor taken away from it."
