بَابُ صِفَةِ غُسْلِ الْمَيِّتِ
Chapter on the description of washing the deceased
Hadith Number: 3109
عن ام عطية رضي الله عنها ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال لهم في غسل ابنته: ((ابدان بميامنها ومواضع الوضوء منها))
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to her at the time of giving ghusl to his daughter: Start washing her from the right side and from the limbs of wudu.

Chapter on the recommendation of a good shroud without extravagance and preferring white
Hadith Number: 3110
عن جابر بن عبد الله رضي الله عنهما ان النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم خطب يوما فذكر رجلا قبض وكفن في كفن غير طائل، وقبر ليلا فزجر النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ان يقبر بالليل حتى يصلى عليه إلا ان يضطر إنسان إلى ذلك، وقال النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: ((إذا كفن احدكم اخاه فليحسن كفنه))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once delivered a sermon, and mention was made of a man who had passed away and was given only a simple shroud and buried at night. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade burying at night without offering the funeral prayer, except if a person is compelled. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any of you gives a shroud to his brother, he should give a good shroud.

وعنه ايضا ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال: ((من وجد سعة، فليكفن في ثوب حبرة))
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever has the means should shroud (the deceased) in striped Yemeni cloth.

Hadith Number: 3112
عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: ((البسوا من ثيابكم البياض، فإنها من خير ثيابكم وكفنوا فيها موتاكم، وإن من خير اكحالكم الإثمد، يجلو البصر وينبت الشعر))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Wear white clothes, for they are among your best clothes, and shroud your dead in them. And among your collyriums, the best is antimony (ithmid); it sharpens the eyesight and causes the eyelashes to grow.

Hadith Number: 3113
عن سمرة بن جندب رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: ((البسوا من ثيابكم البيض وكفنوا فيها موتاكم))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wear white clothes and shroud your dead in them as well.

Chapter on the description of the shroud for men and women and how many garments it should be
Hadith Number: 3114
عن هشام بن عروة عن ابيه عن عائشة رضي الله عنها انها قالت: إن ابا بكر رضي الله عنه قال لها: يا بنية! اي يوم توفي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم؟ قلت: يوم الإثنين، قال: في كم كفنتم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم؟ قلت: يا ابت! كفناه في ثلاثة اثواب بيض سحولية جدد يمانية ليس فيها قميص ولا عمامة ادرج فيها إدراجا
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked her: Daughter! On which day did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) pass away? I said: On Monday. He asked: In how many garments was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) shrouded? I said: Father! We shrouded him (peace and blessings be upon him) in three white new Yemeni Sahuli garments; there was neither a shirt nor a turban among them, he (peace and blessings be upon him) was wrapped in those sheets.

Hadith Number: 3115
عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم كفن في ثلاثة اثواب: في قميصه الذي مات فيه، وحلة نجرانية، الحلة ثوبان
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was shrouded in three garments: one was a shirt in which he, peace and blessings be upon him, passed away, and there was a Najrani suit (set), and a suit consists of two garments.

وعنه رضي الله عنه ايضا قال: كفن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم في بردين ابيضين وبرد احمر
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was shrouded in two white sheets and one red sheet.

Hadith Number: 3117
عن ابنة اهبان ان اباها امر اهله حين ثقل ان يكفنوه ولا يلبسوه قميصا، قالت: فالبسناه قميصا، فاصبحنا والقميص على المشجب
It is narrated from the daughter of Ahban that when her father was afflicted with the illness of death, he advised his family that they should shroud him but not dress him in a shirt. She says: However, we dressed him in a shirt, but when morning came, (we saw that) the shirt was hanging on a peg.
