Chapter: What has been reported regarding one who acknowledges an heir
Hadith Number: 6377
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Sayyiduna Ghailan bin Salamah Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam, he had ten wives. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Select four wives from among them." During the era of Farooq (i.e., the caliphate of Umar), Sayyiduna Ghailan (may Allah be pleased with him) divorced all his wives and distributed all his wealth among his sons. When this news reached Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he summoned him and said: "I think that Satan, having heard the news of your death from the angels, has put this thought into your heart, and now perhaps only a little of your life remains. By Allah! Either you return to your wives and give them back their wealth, or I myself will make those wives your heirs and will order that your grave be stoned as the grave of Abu Righal was stoned."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) returned (from Syria), the sons of Mu'ammar bin Habib came to him and began disputing with him regarding the guardianship (wala) of their sister. The case was brought before Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: I will judge between you according to the command of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whatever wealth the children or parents encompass, it will go to their 'asaba (male relatives), whoever they may be.
Chapter: What has been reported regarding kalalah (one who dies leaving neither parent nor child)
Hadith Number: 6383
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, who says: I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about kalalah. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The verse revealed in the summer regarding this is sufficient for you. Then Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: It is certain that if I had asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about this, it would have been more beloved to me than red camels.
Hadith Number: 6384
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I will not leave any matter that is, in my view, more important than the issue of kalalah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) pressed me so hard regarding this issue that since I joined the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he had never pressed me so much on any matter. And I did not consult the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about any issue as much as I did about kalalah, until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) poked his finger into my chest and said: O Umar! Is the last verse of Surah An-Nisa, which was revealed in the summer, not sufficient for you? Then he said: If I remain alive, I will give such a verdict about kalalah that everyone will understand it, whether he recites the Qur’an or not.
