Supplication for night prayer
Hadith Number: 165
And with this chain of narration, it is narrated from (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would stand for prayer in the last third of the night, he would say: «اللهم لك الحمد أنت نور السموات والأرض ولك الحمد أنت قيوم السموات والأرض، ولك الحمد أنت رب السموات والأرض ومن فيهن. "O my Allah! All praise and thanks are for You, and You are the Light (the One who illuminates) of the heavens and the earth. All praise and thanks are for You, and You are the Sustainer of the earth and the heavens. All praise and thanks are for You, and You are the Lord of the earth and the heavens and whatever is in them. You are the Truth, and Your word is truth, Your promise is truth, and meeting You is truth, Paradise is truth, and the (Hell) fire is truth, the Hour is truth. O my Allah! I have submitted and obeyed for You, and I have believed in You, and upon You I have relied. I turn my heart towards You, and with Your help and support I confront my enemies, and I present my case before You. Forgive all my past and future matters, whether hidden or open. You are my deity; there is no god (worthy of worship) except You." With the help of Allah, the hadith of Abu az-Zubair is completed, and all praise is due to Allah, and this is the last hadith of those named Muhammad.

Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his preferred person (Aswad bin Yazid, may Allah have mercy on him) that Umm al-Mu'mineen, Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), informed him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever regularly prays (voluntary) prayers at night, and then sleep overcomes him (and he sleeps and is unable to pray), the reward of the prayer is written for him, and his sleep becomes a charity for him from Allah."

And with the same chain (it is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to pray eleven rak'ahs at night.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the night prayer. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The night prayer is in sets of two rak'ahs. Then when one of you fears that morning is approaching, he should pray one rak'ah, and that will make what he has prayed an odd number (witr) for him."

It is narrated from Ibn Muhairiz (may Allah have mercy on him) that a man from Banu Kinanah, Mukhdaaji, heard Abu Muhammad in Syria saying that Witr is obligatory. Mukhdaaji said: Then I went to Sayyiduna Ubadah bin As-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him). When I came face to face with him, he was going to the mosque. Then I told him what Abu Muhammad had said, so Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Abu Muhammad has spoken incorrectly. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that Allah has made five prayers obligatory upon His servants. So whoever brings them (on the Day of Judgment), not having neglected any of their rights out of disdain, then Allah has promised to admit him to Paradise. And whoever does not bring them, having neglected their rights out of disdain, then Allah has no promise with him. If He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will admit him to Paradise.

It is narrated from Sa'id bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) that I was traveling with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) on the road to Makkah. When I feared the coming of morning, I dismounted and performed Witr, then joined him. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked me: Where were you? I said: I feared the coming of morning, so I dismounted and performed Witr. He said: Is there not for you the best example in the life of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? I said: Why not, by Allah! Certainly there is. He said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform Witr on his camel.

And with the same chain of narration, it is narrated from (Sayyidah Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When any one of you becomes drowsy during prayer, he should sleep until the effect of sleep leaves him, because if a person prays while drowsy, it is possible that instead of seeking forgiveness, he may start cursing himself."
