When our master Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) performed Hajj in that year, while sitting on the pulpit, he took a bunch of hair from the hand of a guard and said: O people of Madinah! Where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbidding this (wearing wigs of hair), and he (peace be upon him) used to say that when the women of Bani Israel started wearing such hair, Bani Israel were destroyed.
