Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said:“I am afflicted with poverty (and destitution).”(And in another narration, he said:“I am penniless.”) The Prophet sent a message to his wives, and they replied:“By the One Who has sent you with the truth, we have nothing except water.”Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Who will host this man? May Allah have mercy on him.”An Ansari companion, who was called Abu Talhah, said:“I will.”He took the guest to his wife and said:“Honor the guest of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and do not keep anything back.”His wife said:“By Allah, we have nothing except food for the children.”Abu Talhah said:“Prepare the food, light the lamp, and when the children want dinner, put them to sleep.”So she prepared the food, lit the lamp, and put the children to sleep. Then she got up as if to fix the lamp and (deliberately) turned it off, and in the darkness, both of them (husband and wife) kept making the guest think that they were eating with him. Thus, the guest ate, and both of them spent the night hungry. In the morning, Abu Talhah went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said:“Allah laughed at (or was amazed by) what you did with your guest last night.”Then Allah revealed (mentioning their good quality) this verse: «وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ وَمَنْ يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِهِ فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ» “And they give preference to others over themselves, even though they are in need. And whoever is saved from the greed of his soul, it is those who are successful.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed the Fajr prayer, and he (Abu Sa'id) was behind him. The Prophet recited (Qur'an), but his recitation became confused. When he finished the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If only you could have seen me and Iblis. I stretched out my hand and kept choking him, until I felt the coolness of his saliva between my thumb and the finger next to it. If it were not for the supplication of my brother Sulaiman (peace be upon him), he would have been left in such a state that he would have been tied to one of the pillars of the mosque, and the children of Madinah would have played with him. Whoever among you is able, during prayer, not to let anything come between him and his qiblah, then let him do so."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that an old man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The people delayed in making space for him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever does not show mercy to our young ones and does not respect our elders is not from us."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw phlegm in the direction of the qiblah in the mosque. He (peace be upon him) became very angry, so much so that his face turned red. Then an Ansari woman came, she scraped it off and applied "khaluq" (a type of perfume) to its place. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "How good this deed is!"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Al-A’war (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“I fear only three things for my Ummah: (1) Miserliness, whose demands are fulfilled; (2) Desires of the self, which are followed; and (3) A misguided leader.”

Narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I think that so-and-so and so-and-so have no knowledge of the religion we are upon. Ibn ‘Ufayr (in his narration) added these words: Layth said that both those men were hypocrites, and Yahya added at the beginning that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to me one day and said: "I think that so-and-so and so-and-so are not adhering to the religion we are upon."

Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When any unpleasant thing about a person reached you, you would not say in this manner, "What is wrong with so-and-so that he says such things?" Rather, you would say: "What is wrong with the people that they are saying such things?"

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whom do you count among yourselves as «رَقُوب» ?" The companions said: The one who has no children. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Such a person is not called «رَقُوب» , rather, the one who has not sent any of his children (i.e., lost a child) ahead (to the Hereafter) is called so." Then he said: "Whom do you count as a mighty wrestler?" The companions said: The one whom no man can defeat. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Such a person is not a wrestler, rather, the wrestler is the one who controls himself at the time of anger."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There is no sin more deserving that Allah should hasten the punishment for its perpetrator in this world, along with what He stores for him in the Hereafter (of punishment), than rebellion (oppression) and severing the ties of kinship."

Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Salim or Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was sitting among the Companions. I said: Who among you is the Prophet? In response, either he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed to himself or the people pointed towards him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting with a sheet wrapped around his knees and back, with his knees raised and sitting on his buttocks, and the edge of the sheet was touching his feet. I said: O Messenger of Allah! I am somewhat hot-tempered about certain things, please teach me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fear Allah, do not consider any good deed insignificant, even if it is pouring water into the vessel of one who asks for water. Avoid arrogance, for Allah does not like arrogance. If a man abuses you and taunts you for a fault of yours that he knows, do not taunt him for a fault that you know; by doing so, you will receive the reward and the burden of his sin will be upon him. And (also remember that) do not abuse anyone."
