It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Supplication is the best form of worship."

Sayyiduna Marrah bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: A guest came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) sent a man to his wives to bring some food, but none of them had any food. So the Prophet (peace be upon him) made this supplication: "O Allah! I ask You for Your bounty and mercy, for none possesses mercy except You." (Soon after) a gift of roasted goat was brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him). So he said: "This is Allah's bounty, and we are awaiting His further mercy."

Sayyiduna Sulaiman bin Surad (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Two men began to abuse each other in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). One of them became angry and his face turned red. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked at him and said: "I know a word, if this man says it, the anger he is feeling will go away. (And that word is:) «أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم» ." A man who heard this from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and said to him: Do you know what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has just said? He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I know a word, if this man says it, his anger will go away, (and that is:) «أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم» ." The man replied: Do you think I am mad?

Abu Wa'il says: A man came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: O Commander of the Faithful! I have become unable to fulfill my contract of manumission, please help me. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Shall I not teach you the words that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taught me? Even if you had a debt equal to the mountain of Seer in dinars or otherwise, Allah, the Exalted, would pay it off for you. He said: Why not, (certainly teach me). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Recite this supplication: O Allah! Suffice me with Your lawful (provision) instead of Your unlawful, and make me independent of all others by Your grace.

Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me, if I come to know which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what supplication should I make in it?" He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "(Recite this supplication): O Allah, You are Forgiving, You love forgiveness, so forgive me."

Sayyidah Khawlah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person stops at any place and recites this supplication: 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created,' then nothing will harm him until he departs from that place."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you hear the crowing of a rooster at night, then ask Allah for His bounty and turn towards Him, for it (the rooster) crows because it sees an angel. And when you hear the braying of a donkey at night, then seek refuge with Allah from Satan, for it (the donkey) brays because it sees Satan."

Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Munkadir رضي الله عنه reports that a man came to the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and complained about the terrors and anxieties he would see in his dreams. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "When you lie down on your bed, recite this: I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His wrath, His punishment, the evil of His servants, the whisperings of devils, and from their coming near me."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever likes that Allah accepts his supplications during hardships and difficulties, he should supplicate abundantly during times of ease and prosperity."

Sayyidah Umm Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with her) says that I said: O Messenger of Allah! Tell me of an action for which Allah will grant me reward. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Umm Rafi’! When you stand for prayer, say ten times «سبحان الله» , ten times «لا اله الا الله» , ten times «الحمد لله» , ten times «استغفرلله» , and ten times «الله اكبر» . When you say «سبحان الله» ten times, Allah will say: This is My remembrance. When you say «لا اله الا الله» , Allah will say: This is also My remembrance. When you say «الحمد لله» , He will say: This is also My remembrance. When you say «الله اكبر» , Allah will say: This is also for Me. And when you say «استغفرلله» (I seek forgiveness from Allah), Allah will say: I have forgiven you.”
